Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The bartender is responsible for bar service in The Pub and/or Bistro. With the direction/guidance of the Director of Dining Services and Dining Service Manager, the Bartender will assist with planning, coordinating and implementing a variety of beverages with and without alcohol; menu selection and preparation of serving beverages and food to residents, guest, and family members. All job duties are to be performed in accordance with the established standards as described in the Quality Assurance Manual for the department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Primary Job Duties:
1. Takes orders, provides service and requested items both graciously and courteously. Answers pertinent questions about drink items.
2. Clears all tableware from tables and bar after service.
3. Cleans all glassware and dishes
4. Stocks, restocks and rotates supplies.
5. Prepares garnishes for bar use.
6. Maintains all documents necessary to accurately account for resident and guest charges.
7. Assists supervisor with inventory of supplies.
8. Assists as directed in other areas of the dining services department, etc.
9. Assists with set up and break down of special functions or parties
Secondary Duties:
1. Assists in maintaining a high level of customer service for our residents and their guests.
2. Ability to interpret and explain menu, refer or answer questions, coordinate meal service process and understands requests.
3. Maintains safe and sanitary conditions in work area.
4. Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
5. Completes all assigned cleaning tasks.
6. Informs supervisor of equipment and supply needs.
7. Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
8. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum High School Diploma/GED required.
2. Ability to understand and follow instructions in English and communicate effectively.
3. Experience bartending in a hotel, restaurant or club with fine dining experience preferred.
4. Ability to work in close cooperation with residents, guests, visitors, families, supervisor and peers. Requires courtesy, tact and graciousness.5. Must be at least 21 years of age.
6. Must obtain the Maryland BEST Certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Light to moderate physical effort 90% of the time. Must be able to stand and walk 90% of the work day; ability to stoop, bend and stretch frequently; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently. Must be able to see, hear, and speak.
Compensation
$18 -$20 an hour
