- High school diploma/GED.
- Three (3) years of experience that provides specific experience in the safe and efficient operation of both light and/or heavy equipment.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license equivalent to a Florida CDL A and obtain a valid Florida CDL A driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
- Performs skilled work in the operation of heavy and complex equipment for the city.
- In the absence of a supervisor, position performs essential functions as leader of a project crew comprised of other Operators, Laborers, Groundskeepers and the like.
- Assesses project assignments received from supervisor for the purpose of coordinating equipment, materials, time, and labor required for efficient and effective completion of assigned tasks.
- Operates heavy and complex equipment, i.e., dump trucks, bucket trucks, cranes, back hoes, excavators, bobcats, concrete/asphalt cutters, trenchers, front end loaders, turf sweepers or aerators.
- Prepares assigned equipment for work by daily inspecting prior to and after use, and performs or coordinates regular maintenance and repair as directed.
- Ensures the safe loading, unloading and operating condition of equipment through daily safety inspections for defects, malfunctioning or otherwise substandard conditions. Identifies and takes corrective action or advises supervisor.
- Performs maintenance and repair on municipal property, i.e., installation and repair of stormwater or irrigation lines, catch basins, installation of new sidewalks or structures and maintenance of roadways.
- Performs other related duties as required.
