Virtual Sign Language Interpreter

Location: Remote (Kentucky, USA)
Job Type: Fulltime, Spring Contract Opportunity
Pay: $38/Hour

As a Virtual Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in bridging communication gaps for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. You will provide real-time interpretation services through our virtual platform, ensuring accurate and effective communication between users. This position requires proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong technical skills to navigate our virtual communication platform.

Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality sign language interpretation services during virtual meetings, conferences, appointments, and other events.
• Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa, conveying messages accurately while preserving tone and context.
• Facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard of hearing individuals and hearing participants.
• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and impartiality at all times.
• Adhere to ethical standards and best practices in sign language interpretation.
• Collaborate with colleagues and clients to ensure smooth communication processes.
• Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in sign language interpretation.
• Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance interpreting skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

• Certification or licensure as a sign language interpreter preferred.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with a strong understanding of deaf culture.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a virtual environment.
• Strong technical skills, including proficiency in virtual communication platforms.
• Flexibility to accommodate varying schedules and assignments.
• Attention to detail and the ability to convey nuanced messages accurately.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
• Prior experience as a sign language interpreter in virtual settings.
• Familiarity with Kentucky state regulations and guidelines for sign language interpreters.
• Additional certifications or training in specialized areas of interpretation (e.g., legal, medical, educational).
