Job Summary and Qualifications

Serves as a member of Cardiovascular Catheterization Recovery Team engaged in the clinical and operational management of a cardiac catheterization recovery area. Is responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling of personnel, supplies, processes, and equipment. Internally coordinates with related departments including CCU, ICCU, Nursing Units, ED, Surgery, and 24 hour nursing Administration. Is the responsible individual to achieve strategic mission and objectives.

Assists in the coordination, development, and implementation of the PI Program for the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, and as such is responsible for the timely completion and review of monthly PI projects for all assigned modalities. Coordinates Outcomes Review and department projects as assigned to meet JCAHO, ACC, and DOH Standards as well as system and departmental projects and initiatives. Evaluates effectiveness by assessing aggregate data and provides appropriate reports. When indicated, chair and coordinates focused reviews based upon individual cases or trends in quality issues. Facilitates the management of information for presentation as needed. Assumes overall responsibility for preparation and coordination of inpatients/outpatients undergoing invasive cardiac procedures.

  • Oversees organization of Cardiac Cath / Electrophysiology Recovery Service.
  • Active involvement in decisions regarding Cath / EP recovery functions such as equipment, supplies, organization, and improvements for service and patient care.
  • Serves as role model for professionalism and patient care advocate in the Cath / EP recovery area.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, supervisors, ancillary departments and all internal/external Customers.
  • Demonstrates flexibility regarding coverage of the Cath / EP recovery area as staffing needs Dictate.
  • Maintains current knowledge for professional growth and development.
  • Oversees educational needs for patients and families requiring Cardiac Cath / Electrophysiological services.
  • Provides guidelines and documents nursing care in accordance with the Cath / EP recovery Scope of Care.
  • Is proficient in monitoring and training personnel in the GE Maclab/Cardiolab.
  • Assures satisfaction of customers (patient, visitors, physicians, and staff)
  • Implements new technologies and trains staff in protocols and education of usage of these technologies.
  • Provides department specific statistical data for review by Department Director.
  • Oversees education compliance of staff in core competencies.
  • Coordinates with Cath Lab Director continual current updates of Individual Staff Files.
  • Oversight of Cath/EP recovery staff and Patient Safety.
  • Provides Radiation Safety Education and Staff radiation monitoring.
  • Supply management and Inventory.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Required: RN with at least 5 years Cath lab / EP lab experience.
  • Preferred: Cath Lab and/or EP Lab management or previous coordinator position.
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Required: Licensed in the State of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or compact license.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
