Who We Are:

Mitchell County Regional Health Center is in Osage, Iowa located in Mitchell County, which has a population of 10,600 people. MCRHC is a 25-bed critical access hospital, including a Level 4 Trauma Center Emergency Room seeing 3,200 visits annually. The Surgical Services department performs over 1,300 procedures annually, including specialties General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Pain management, and Podiatry.

About The Job:

The lead cook manages food preparation and production following department requirements for quality, quantity, nutrition, and food safety standards. Meets established meal schedules and maintains a sanitary environment. Assists with food and supply orders, planning monthly menus. Collaborates with other Food & Nutrition staff in preparation of meals.

The Shift:

Days- Monday-Sunday with holidays and weekend rotation.

5:45 am to2:15 with flexibility to cover other shifts. Weekend & Holiday Hours 6:30 am to 7:00 pm


The Pay: Starts at $16.00 per hour, increases with experience. Also, shift differential pay for weekends.

What You Will Do:

  • Maintains high degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene. Implements strict sanitation and safety regulations in the performance of duties.
  • Keeps Director of Food & Nutrition informed of food preparation activities, needs, problems, and accepts suggestions constructively from supervisors.
  • Responsible for preparation and serving two meals per day for patients.
  • Uses only approved standardized recipes in food preparation, with proper techniques in preparation, storage, handling, and holding of all food items, including leftovers.
  • Follows manufacturer's instructions for use of dietary equipment and department cleaning schedule for all equipment only as directed and approved by the Director of Food & Nutrition.
  • Sets up steam table with hot foods, serves patient trays, and assists in serving line in cafeteria.
  • Interacts with co-workers and all customers with respect and a positive attitude.
  • Knows limitations of special diets and uses approved resources for questions.
  • Uses only approved menu substitutions.
  • Organizes work to meet serving deadlines.
  • Attractively and efficiently serves each meal.
  • Understands good body mechanics, and safety issues regarding working around hot equipment.
  • Prepares appropriate quantities of food. Uses leftovers in accordance with established policy.
  • Supports and abides by all PHO, departmental, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Acts as cashier in the cafeteria when necessary and follows established cash box policy and procedure. Responsible for reporting and submitting daily income in cafeteria.

What We Need From You:

  • Participates with training all new employees, giving input as needed.
  • Checks incoming merchandise and assures its storage in absence of the Director of Food & Nutrition.
  • Assists in process improvement activities.
  • Place food orders, fills pop in merchandiser and makes store runs (as needed) in absence of Director of Food & Nutrition.
  • Contribute to preparation sheet and ensure items are prepared as needed.
  • Assist with menu planning.
  • Review menus and recipes and communicates any upcoming needs to supervisor.
  • Assist with keeping lunch tickets up to date in absence of Director of Food & Nutrition

Position Qualifications


Education:

High School diploma or equivalent certificate.

Successful completion of self-study, Simplified Diet Manual Lessons upon hire.

Successful completion of a food safety and sanitation training/course.

Complete Serve Safe training within one year of hire date and obtain certificate.

Experience:

Previous experience in food service is preferred.

Special Skills & Aptitudes

Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
