Dog Groomer

Dogtopia, the industry leader in dog daycare, boarding, and spa services has an immediate opening for a Dog Groomer who will ensure that dogs leave fresh, clean, and smelling like a million bones! We are looking for someone who wants to grow with us and stay long-term. This is a role for someone with previous grooming experience and can provide top customer service. This person should love dogs - and, upon successful completion of training, you can even bring YOUR dog to work with you! What a bonus!

You would have access to hundreds of clients of ours to get yourself started with a great client base in grooming and dog spa services! Our demand for grooming is growing quickly and we need an excellent groomer to join our team! We have dozens of dogs in our doors every day for daycare with pet parents looking for a grooming option and our database of clients is consistently growing! Our beautiful spa includes a professional grooming table, drying crates and handheld dryer, walk-in tubs, plus other equipment and supplies. We just ask that you provide your professional grooming tools and anything else special about your grooming business that you’d like to provide.

Qualifications

• Must love dogs
• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of grooming school
• Certification through the National Dog Groomer Association of America is advantageous
• 1+ years of grooming experience in a professional groom shop environment
• Must own and maintain your own grooming equipment
• Must understand that dogs in our care depend on you showing up to work on time; attendance & reliability is a MUST!
• Ability to groom all dog breeds and sizes to customer expectations
• Ability to work cohesively with others in a fun, fast paced environment
• Ability to react to situations that may pose a hazard to the health and safety of dogs entrusted by pet parents to Dogtopia
• Sound understanding of animal behavior
• The ability to stand for long periods of time
• The ability to treat all animals with compassion
• The ability to lift heavy pets and equipment

Spa Services – to complete these duties it is required to lift dogs into tubs, cage banks and onto grooming tables. Moving dogs, by leash, from area to area while maintaining full control of the dog is necessary.

• Dematting and detangling hair as required
• Bathing, conditioning, and drying pets
• Trimming pets’ nails, brushing their teeth, and cleaning their ears
• Grooming and styling pets according to pet parents’ instructions and/or standard grooming styles
• Accommodating special requests that pet parents may have
• Identifying health issues in pets, such as ear infections, skin conditions, or tooth decay, and informing pet parents of these observations
• Recommending suitable products to pet parents
• Maintaining detailed records of the services performed

Safety and Cleanliness

• Maintaining a clean work environment during and after services including cleaning up any accidents by the dogs, checking each crate for urine and feces, and ensuring the area is sanitized
• Cleaning procedures involve the proper use of pet-safe cleaning solutions to ensure a safe environment for both people and dogs
• Sweeping or vacuuming all fur from all surfaces
• Cleaning and tidying the tub area
• Wiping down/sanitizing all surfaces in work area including shelves, carts, etc.
• Dust mopping lobby and hallway for excess hair
• Re-stocking towels, removing dirty towels and laundry started if washer is available
• Putting all tools away in an orderly and organized fashion
• Treating all dogs with conscious care and respect
• Ensuring that dogs entrusted by pet parents to Dogtopia are secure from hazards to their health and safety
• Never raising voice or handling dogs roughly in any manner
• Ensuring the safety of the dogs by always securing them on the grooming table, in the tub or in a crate
• Never leaving them unattended while on the table or in the tub; never allowing them to roam freely in the grooming or tub area
• Calling a manager any time a service can not be completed due to the dog's behavior, health or injury
