Job Title: Literacy & Instructional Specialist Librarian - Upper School

The Literacy & Instructional Specialist Librarian position is critical to the success of our school. They create a safe, engaging learning environment favorable to the learning and personal growth of every teacher and student. They establish effective rapport with students and inspire them to develop faith, knowledge, skills, and attitudes, which will prepare them for life. They challenge every student to excel at the highest level and establish great relationships with parents, which fosters trust and makes for a successful home and school partnership.


This position reports directly to the Upper School Principal


We're looking for a multi-talented individual to join our team as a learning catalyst—someone who seamlessly blends the wisdom of a librarian, the warmth of a mentor, and the enthusiasm of an educator. This unique position will play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and innovation within our school. 


Key Responsibilities


Library Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the library, ensuring an organized and welcoming space for students and faculty.
  • Curate and manage diverse collections that support the curriculum and encourage a love of reading and learning.
  • Create and manage a haven where students and faculty can explore, dream, and discover.

Instructional Coaching

  • Collaborate with teachers to design and implement effective instructional strategies that align with educational goals.
  • Provide ongoing professional development and support to educators in the integration of technology, information literacy, and innovative teaching methods.
  • Conduct classroom observations, provide constructive feedback with a sprinkle of inspiration, and assist in the development of personalized professional growth plans.


Teaching

  • Plan and deliver engaging and interactive instructional sessions that promote information literacy, research skills, and critical thinking.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to co-teach lessons and enhance the integration of library resources into the curriculum.
  • Foster a love of literature and a passion for learning through creative and dynamic teaching methods.


Student Engagement

  • Develop and implement programs to engage students in the library, promoting a culture of curiosity and exploration.
  • Provide support for student research projects, guiding them in the development of strong information-seeking and evaluation skills.


Technology Integration

  • Embrace the digital age and help integrate technology seamlessly into our learning landscape. 
  • Ensure students are not just tech-savvy but also future-read by keeping current with emerging educational technologies. 
  • Support teachers and students in leveraging technology tools for enhanced learning experiences in both the library and classroom settings. 


Administrative Support

  • Assist in teacher training, mentorship programs and regular evaluations
  • Provide resources and inspiration for teaching staff professional development
  • Serve as an information kiosk for staff, students and families regarding print, digital, and online resources, platforms and tools.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education Required 

4 Year Degree in Education or Education Field of Study

State teaching certification

Active church member 


Experience Required

5 years secondary teaching experience

Strong knowledge of library systems, information literacy, and educational technology

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, educators, and administrators

Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multitasking environment (organizing and cataloging resources, information distribution and teaching mentorships)


Education & Experience Desired

Master’s Degree in School Librarianship or Education field of study

Experience as an instructional coach 

CPR/First Aid and/or MAT Certified
