Position Summary

The Drug Information Pharmacist reports to the Formulary Manager and maintains, facilitates access to, and distributes clinical drug information, clinical product evaluations (monographs, new drug write-ups, etc.), recommendations for rational drug formulary positioning, creation of standard utilization management, and recommendations regarding client pharmacy benefit expenditures and utilization.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for optimizing clinical quality and cost-effectiveness of drug and medical therapy for health plan clients and their members.
  • Develop and present drug and class monographs, therapeutic class reviews, and formulary strategy and recommendations such as drug and utilization management positioning (quantity limits, step edit, and prior authorization guidelines) in response to newly approved therapeutic agents, patent expirations, shortages, Food and Drug
  • Administration alerts, and drug recalls or withdrawals, to PharmPix’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee on a bi-monthly basis, or as needed.
  • Provide rational management of drug utilization by utilizing analytical tools and an evidence-based approach to achieve better health outcomes and lower net cost for health plan sponsors.
  • Focus on using a variety of drug information databases, analytical tools, and other clinical resources to identify opportunities that simultaneously improve our health plans' quality and financial performance, while supporting and promoting PharmPix's clinical products and services.

  • Prepare materials and coordinate P&T Committee meetings.
  • Assist in material preparation for PharmPix’s P&T Committee meetings.
  • Responsible for the coordination, organization, oversight, and presentation of materials during the P&T Committee meeting.
  • Responsible for the update of the P&T Committee binder.
  • Responsible to provide invoices to the finance department for P&T members.
  • Provide clinical oversight of the Weekly MediSpan Drug File, Utilization Management, commercial specialty designations, and Drug Safety alerts including Drug Recalls.

Professional Experience and Skills Requirements:

  • Pharmacy degree (Pharm. D.) or equivalent.
  • Two (2) to five (5) plus years related experience and/or training in drug information management or similarly related duties, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of a Residency in Drug Information or Managed Care desired.
  • Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Managed Care Certification or certification within the first six months of employment.
  • Current, valid, and unrestricted state or local pharmacist license.
  • Active membership in a state or local pharmacy association.
  • Fully bilingual: Spanish and English.
  • A thorough understanding of the managed care industries from the perspective of Pharmacy Benefit Managers and providers of care
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Great presentation skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational ability.
  • Ability to multitask and meet constant deadlines.
