We're hiring a Senior Credit Officer to join our Credit Policy Team.
Responsibilities
Serves a fundamental leadership role in Univest's credit process, in keeping with the Bank's asset quality standards and in support of loan growth objectives:
- Possesses a deep understanding of all commercial credit products, policies and procedures, as well as the ability to handle complex credits in terms of structure, pricing and negotiation.
- Exercises assigned credit authority in approving commercial loans, operational exposures and overdrafts, adhering to Univest's culture of high credit quality and in keeping with policy and compliance requirements.
- Provides constructive input to relationship managers regarding loan structure, with an eye towards appropriate levels of financial reporting and covenants.
- Serves as a positive influence on asset quality and credit administration by coaching underwriters and team leaders in the production of concise, on-point approval memoranda tailored to deal size and complexity.
- Provides assistance to the Commercial Underwriting Manager in assessing workflows and staff capabilities, toward the goals of quality underwriting, increased productivity and staff development.
- Identifies potential problem credits and advises Credit management as to potential risk rating downgrades and, in concert with the Chief Credit Officer, transfers to Special Assets.
- Accompanies relationship managers on client and prospect calls, assisting in the delivery of proposals and negotiation of loan terms and modifications.
Acts as a subject matter expert on the Bank's commercial credit policies and procedures:
- Serves a primary resource to both line and credit staff in the interpretation and application of credit policies.
- In conjunction with Commercial Team Leaders, coaches less experienced relationship managers in credit theory and administration.
- Offers suggestions to the Chief Credit Officer to refine policy language and adapt policy to evolving market conditions.
- Communicates to lending and underwriting teams approved policy revisions.
Assists in the coordination of the credit aspects of all regulatory exams and internal/external loan audits.
Responsible for compliance with laws and regulations that apply to the position, including the Univest Code of Conduct.
Performs additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline desirable.
Minimum fifteen (15) years of bank commercial credit and lending experience, including advanced credit analysis training. Minimum five (5) years approving commercial loan transactions as a bank Credit Officer.
Demonstrated understanding of commercial loan structures, including covenants and collateral, and experience underwriting and risk-rating complex loan transactions.
Direct, extensive knowledge of commercial loan and general bank operations.
Prior direct management experience desirable, but not required.
Prior line experience desirable, but not required.
Strong organizational, analytical and communications skills.
