Title: Distribution Sales Manager

The North America Sales team at Ingersoll Rand is growing. We are seeking a self-motivated and driven Territory Sales Manager that will perform Sales Engineering responsibilities for the North America (continental US + Canada) region under the Ingersoll Rand Pumps (IRP) business unit.


Job Summary:


The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining and growing gear pump distribution business in the assigned regions; utilizing their technical sales business acumen and customer relationship building skills at all channel partner levels. A successful candidate will demonstrate their passion towards managing their existing distributor network, while also determining opportunities to grow the territory via new distributor acquisition. Responsibilities:

  • Achieve sales goals, through collaboration with Product Management, Inside Sales, Application Engineering internal teams, via market penetration; growing existing distributor accounts and/or establishing new business accounts.
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge to assess the potential application of company products, recommending solutions that meet customer needs, and advance the sales process.
  • Develops business plans, provide manager feedback regarding current and potential customer needs, competitive offerings, pricing strategy, and initiatives to drive profitable growth in the assigned territory.
  • Actively pursue prospects and qualify leads in the development of new business opportunities.
  • Manage large pricing negotiations, technical specifications, and toll-gate sales process.
  • Consult with Manager on setting prices and discounts when needing to deviate from pre-established guidelines in order to promote a sale. Keeps management informed of low or eroding margins when products are competitively priced.
  • Develop opportunities to promote the organization to new customers in order to meet strategic growth objectives.
  • Partner in the customers development/validation processes; guide pump specification and favorable selection process.
  • Prepares formal written quotes for presentation to customers. Coordinates with internal departments to communicate customer requirements during the development of inquiry responses and formal written proposals.
  • Meet (in-person and virtually) existing and potential customers, presents product information, quotations, and proposals during various stages of the sales process.
  • Interface with various customer departments on a technical level, including Engineering, Purchasing, Customer Service, Quality, Project Team, and top management.
  • Maintain CRM as necessary to track the status of inquiries, quotes, bids, customer correspondence, and customer contacts. Provide forecasting and internal reporting to sales team and direct manager.
  • Conducts Monthly and Quarterly Business Reviews (MBRs and QBRs, respectively).

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements:
  • This is a remote position with travel up to 75%.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field, with a minimum of five years of customer-facing sales experience, preferably in distribution. MBA is a plus.
  • Possess and/or acquire gear or similar pump technology knowledge. Relevant technical sales experience in similar positive displacement pump areas will be considered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM, and ERP software.
  • Track record of success in developing new distribution channels and expanding business with existing clientele, with previous experience in solution sales within positive displacement pump technologies preferred.
  • Experience in General Manufacturing and Industrial markets is advantageous.
