Job Summary:

The Host must possess a personal and energetic personality to welcome and seat guests ensuring their needs are accommodated. The Host controls the flow of the restaurant through seating and to alleviate servers from getting multiple tables at one time to ensure each guest gets an excellent service experience. The Host must be aware of new menu items and specials and be able to answer all questions about the menu.

Essential Job Duties: include the following; other duties may be assigned:

  • Greets all guests as soon as they enter the lobby/restaurant and follows up as guests leave to ensure they had a positive experience
  • Is attentive to FOH atmosphere including lighting, music volume, and overall cleanliness in order to ensure a positive first impression
  • Protects establishment and guests by adhering to sanitation and safety policies.
  • Maintains menu presentation by keeping menus clean; replacing damaged or soiled pages; cleaning chalkboards; lettering specials on chalkboards.
  • Supports wait staff by setting up and replenishing condiment stands, trash container liners, and bus stations.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in staff training opportunities
  • Keeps up to date on activities and events in town

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, balance; stoop, talk or hear.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.  This job also requires the use of stairs frequently.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to long periods of standing.  Working at night can be a difficult adjustment to most employees’ schedules.  

The nature of the hospitality business requires employees to work weekends, holidays and late hours.
