DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Construction Engineer, you will provide engineering support under the supervision of the Director of Engineering, as well as administrative assistance, including managing construction projects, participating in meetings, and performing related duties as required. You will have the opportunity to assist in planning for new facilities and the rehabilitation or modernization of existing terminal facilities by preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for construction work and overseeing construction. You will also be working with design consultants and construction management firms at the direction of the Director of Engineering. You must have the ability to manage time effectively, as you will be working on multiple projects in various stages of completion at one time Additional responsibilities include:

  • Supplying information and recommendations to the Director of Engineering for use during construction work
  • Acting in a construction management role on most engineering projects
  • Managing projects for compliance with contract requirements and departmental standards
  • Maintaining working relationship with pier tenants, PhilaPort Operations and Maintenance, consulting engineers, and contractors to ensure cost effective and on-schedule projects
  • Assisting in the department's expenditure decisions for maintenance or construction work as necessary
  • Maintaining the department's as-built drawings and project files.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: Starting salary is negotiable, based upon experience.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A minimum of one year of civil engineering experience in transportation and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited institution; or
  • An Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be well versed in Microsoft Suite Programs, BlueBeam, and AutoCAD.
  • You must possess effective interpersonal skills.
  • You must be highly organized and self-motivated.
  • You must possess a valid US Driver's License that is not under suspension.
  • You must have the ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Civil engineering experience
  • Design and construction experience, including industrial building and heavy marine construction dredging, pile driving, concrete and asphalt paving, sprinkler systems, electrical distribution and sewer and water lines.
