THE POSITION

Do you have an interest in conducting surveys and preparing forest habitat type maps? Would you like to be a part of a department that strives to manage and protect wildlife and their habitats while promoting hunting and trapping for current and future generations? The Pennsylvania (PA) Game Commission is looking to hire a 3 year, limited-term, Forest Technician to provide technical support and assistance to Regional Forestry staff. Gain valuable experience and make a difference by joining the Northeast Region of the PA Game Commission.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Forest Technician, you will be responsible for providing technical support and assistance to Regional Forestry staff in day-to-day activities on State Game Lands. Your primary focus will be forest habitat management activities promoting young forest conditions. This will include surveying and marking boundaries of timber sales, herbicide areas, and other forest habitat treatments. You will have the opportunity to assist foresters in the collection of field data for stand analysis and sale layouts. You will also be responsible for maintaining tools and equipment used in daily operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • 3 Year Limited Term, Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate's degree in forest technology; or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
