Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. This position allows for remote readings.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the

Basic Requirements:

• Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met
• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation
• Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
• The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
• (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences
• Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs)
• PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis
• PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
• Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Additional Requirement: Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board eligible in Radiology Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard

• Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; straight pulling (4 hours); pushing (4 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (2 hours);standing (7 hours); kneeling (1 hour); repeated bending (4 hours); both legs required; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far-vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and to 20/100 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); mental and emotional stability required.

The Radiologist is responsible for providing quality and cost-effective imaging services within the VA Maine Healthcare System, including Togus VA Medical Center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
Incumbent is a Clinical Staff Radiologist in the Imaging Service.
Scope of work: 1.
Interprets Nuclear Medicine studies such as bone scan, HIDA, MUGA, thyroid, etc., and possibly cardiac as privileged.
2.
Performs interventional procedures under CT guidance, ultrasound guidance, or fluoroscopy guidance as privileged.
3.
Participates in and supports performance improvement activities, including, but not limited to, quality assurance, external review programs, internal peer review programs, and accreditation requirements.
4.
Uses PowerScribe voice recognition dictation system and ensures timely and consistent imaging reporting and record keeping.
Provides accurate, concise, timely documentation of care in the electronic medical record (Computerized Patient Record System -CPRS) on each patient care occurrence.
Interpretation and dictation of reports must be completed using PowerScribe voice recognition system for dictation and in the required VAMC format.
Verification of all reports must be completed within 48 hours.
5.
Ensures communication for direct patient care is accomplished among imaging staff and providers.
Assists in monitoring exposure, ensuring ALARA guidelines followed.
6.
ls knowledgeable of changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric age groups.
Has ability to assess and interpret data about the patient's status; and ability to identify age-specific needs and provide the appropriate care based upon on the age-related factors.
7.
Participates in Quality Management activities such as image quality, clerical checks, peer review, Tumor Board and other activities as required.
8.
May be asked from time to time to review imaging policy and procedures and recommend updates or changes to the Chief of Radiology for implementation and support the coordination of the service daily functioning as needed.
9.
Clarifies information and processes of performed procedures, prior to exam.
Obtains consent of patient/family as needed before conducting invasive procedures.
10.
Radiologists assist other physicians as indicated, ensuring proper examinations are performed.
11.
Familiar with and adheres to the Medical Staff Bylaws of this facility.
12.
Participates in various hospital committees, department, and hospital in-service programs and acquire CMEs as required.
