Franciscan Ministries, sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, is a nonprofit Catholic organization. For more than a century, we have cared for generations of families. We own and operate premier senior living communities that provide a spectrum of housing and care options including independent living, assisted living, memory support services, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and community-based home care. Our charitable programs include a domestic violence prevention center and shelter, and we provide scholarships and educational support for students attending an all-girls Catholic high school in the Chicago area.

 

About your new role:

As the Chief People Officer (CPO), you will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. You will lead a team of five high-functioning HR professionals, supporting our workforce of over 1,700 employees. In this role, you will oversee enterprise learning, leadership development, and strategic planning for Human Resources (HR). Additionally, you will be responsible for system-wide recruitment, associate relations, unemployment, workers' compensation programs, and benefits. This role will be onsite at our home office in Lemont, Illinois.

Position overview:

 

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with the ministry's mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to ensure HR initiatives support and enhance overall ministry objectives.

Talent Acquisition and Management

  • Oversee the entire recruitment life cycle to attract and retain Senior Living's top talent.
  • Implement talent management strategies, including succession planning and workforce development.

Employee Relations and Engagement

  • Foster and implement a positive workplace culture through effective employee relations initiatives.
  • Drive employee engagement programs to enhance morale and productivity.

Performance Management

  • Project Lead the design and implementation of performance management systems.
  • Ensure performance metrics align with organizational objectives.

Learning and Development

  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and career development.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Oversee the design and administration of competitive compensation and benefits programs for all levels of the ministry. 
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements and industry standards.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Stay informed on changes in employment laws and regulations.
  • Ensure HR policies and practices comply with legal requirements to mitigate risk.
  • Partner with the ministry's legal counsel and compliance organizations with a continual improvement focus on our employment practices. 

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

  • Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives to create an equitable workplace.
  • Implement strategies to enhance diversity at all levels of the organization.
  • Where appropriate, weave the ministry's Catholic heritage into initiatives to improve company culture and spiritual support. 

 

HR Technology and Analytics

  • Evaluate and implement HR technology solutions to streamline processes.
  • Utilize data analytics to inform HR strategies and decision-making.
  • Utilize technology to improve and maintain the HR's contribution to financial stewardship for the ministry. 

Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with employees at all levels, fostering open and transparent communication.
  • Foster a culture of feedback to enhance and recognize associate performance. 
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote a positive employer brand.

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience in senior-level HR leadership roles (10+ years of experience preferred).
  • Senior Living experience strongly preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in talent management, employee engagement, and organizational development.
  • Familiarity with HR technology and data analytics
