Job Summary

Assists Director of Pharmacy in management of the hospital pharmacy. Acts as a consultant to medical staff regarding formulary issues. Provides cost effective care to patients and coordinates medication safety for the hospital. Assists with meeting regulatory requirements and implementing quality improvement programs. Develops and coordinates clinical pharmacy services including antimicrobial stewardship, renal dosing program, pharmacokinetic monitoring, IV to PO conversions, etc. Educates pharmacists in provision of clinical services and monitors quality of clinical services. Serves as a knowledge resource for Pharmacy Staff, Nursing Staff and Medical Staff.

Frye Regional Medical Center, located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina is a 355-bed acute care hospital, 81-bed Behavioral Health facility and more than 70 primary and specialty care providers.

 

Essential Functions

  • Manages drug therapy protocols as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Reviews, interprets and evaluates medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential or actual drug related problems.
  • Provides drug information and education to medical staff, healthcare professionals, and patients, and pharmacy students.
  • Documents interventions and their outcomes for use in drug therapy quality improvement efforts.
  • Evaluates medication orders for accuracy and completeness prior to order entry. Checks for accuracy after filling by technicians.
  • Maintains adequate knowledge of pharmacy automated systems and computer software.
  • The Pharmacy Clinical Manager will manage all aspects of the daily operations of the clinical pharmacy in accordance with all government regulations.
  • Responsible for drug use evaluations, improving formulary management, therapeutic interchanges, and assistance with budget control.
  • Cover Pharmacy Director’s duties when Pharmacy Director is not available.
  • Encourage professionalism, productivity, performance, and efficiency of all pharmacy staff.
  • Strives to enhance patient care and satisfaction.
  • Maintain consistent schedule of rounding at each pharmacy care location in coordination with Pharmacy Director.
  • Ensure timely evaluations of pharmacy staff members, including performing annual reviews for direct reports.
  • In collaboration with Pharmacy Director: delegate assignments and committee appointments for pharmacy staff.
  • Develop clinical policies, procedures and protocols for pharmacy staff. Provide supervision and coaching for pharmacy staff. Create short- and long-term pharmacy strategic goals for pharmacy program development.
  • Participate in hiring process for pharmacy positions.
  • Coordinate clinical pharmacy staff competencies (initial orientation and ongoing pharmacy team member development) as well as provider staff.
  • Initiate and implement quality improvement projects in the pharmacy department.
  • Respond or delegate clinical questions regarding patient care or formulary decisions.
  • Precept pharmacy learners including technicians, students and residents.
  • Attend management team meetings, participate in the P&T committee, and other meetings as determined by Pharmacy Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Pharmacy Director. Projects assigned appropriately based on professional skill areas, experience and interest.

Minimum Education

Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy required.

Doctorate in Pharmacy preferred. Board Certification preferred.

 

Licenses:

Current NC Pharmacy licensure, or must be completed within 90 days of hire by either examination or reciprocity required.

Computer: Microsoft Office Suite, strong Excel & Outlook

 

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum of three years of hospital clinical pharmacy experience. Two years of administrative experience preferred. Antimicrobial stewardship training or certification is required.
