Job Description
Growing Ophthalmology (Retina) practice in McLean, Virginia, is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, dependable, experienced, and resolute Patient Service Representative (PSR) with medical insurance and billing knowledge and experience, who is capable of demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills with physicians, co-workers, and patients. Attention to detail, multi-tasking, prioritization and time-management skills are required for this front office position.
Direct Report: Reports to the Lead Technician
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answer all in-coming calls and is responsible for scheduling patient appointments; alert management of patients that require immediate attention
- Schedule patient appointment following office protocols; verify insurance, check insurance eligibility and demographic information during initial scheduling and at each visit
- Greeting and checking patients in for appointments; collect co-payments and patient balances
- Assist patients when needed with completing consent forms
- Inform patients of delays or other situations that may result in a longer than normal wait times
- Check out patients after they have seen the physician; schedule return visit as needed
- Obtain insurance pre-certification and referrals as needed
- Screen clinic schedules daily and weekly to ensure obtaining necessary authorizations timely
- Obtain prior authorizations for visits and procedures
- Obtain medical record release consent forms from patients and/or medical records from referring doctors’ offices.
- Assist with in-house admin duties
- Manage mail/deliveries and route urgent inquiries to management
- Answer and/or investigate patient inquiries/complaints or direct patients’ concerns to management
- Manage any duties or projects as assigned by management or the physician
Position Requirements:
- Knowledge of medical practice procedures and functions preferred
- Knowledge of insurance procedures including Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care Plans
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Professional manner and appearance
- Active listening, critical and analytical thinking skills
- Previous experience with multi-line telephone systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Experience with computers, electronic practice management system and patient scheduling system, electronic health record (EHR) system
- 1 year+ previous experience in a medical office or clinic setting
Education: High school diploma or GED required
