Work Schedule: Schedules will be determined according to the individual member’s service needs.  Some variables affecting works schedules include the member’s work schedule, Day Habilitation or activities and the number of hours determined for services by the member and their team.  Most available shifts are 12am-8am and 4pm-12am Monday through Friday, with an every other weekend rotation.

 

Supervision: Direct Support Professionals are supervised by their House Manager

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To assist each member with learning, improving or doing some or all of the following tasks required for independent living.  These tasks include the following but are not limited to:

Member Services:

  • Time Management
  • Shopping
  • Transportation
  • Housekeeping
  • Job Searches and/or coaching
  • Medication Management
  • Personal Hygiene
  • Money Management/budgeting
  • Dressing
  • Community Interactions

 

Direct Support Professionals MUST document all services provided to each member prior to the end of each shift in the Therap system.  If documentation is one week late, you will be taken off the schedule until your documentation is completed at the POI Administration Office. 

Code of Ethics and Values: All members who receive services through Pursuit of Independence will be treated with respect, no matter what their disability is. All members will be treated with dignity and their confidentiality is to be held in the highest regard. Basic member rights include, but are not limited to the right to choose activities, the right to private conversations, the right to request meetings with supervisory staff, the right to request different staff, the right to be free of abuse and/or manipulation, free of neglect and to be free from retaliation. All members have the right to request additional services and the right to receive services free from gossip about other staff members and/or peers. All members have the right to work and to provide peer encouragement and supports.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver’s license and current personal proof of insurance
  • Chauffer’s license or the ability to obtain it  within your first 2 weeks
  • Minimum of High School diploma, GED or life experience equivalent
  • Mandatory Adult Abuse Training or the ability to obtain it within your first 6 months of employment
  • Ability to lift or help transfer adults requiring assistance
  • Ability to objectively document all services provided
  • CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment

 

Expectations: All members who receive services at Pursuit of Independence have the ability and potential to improve their quality of life. Staff is here to provide services as outlined in each member’s individualized Program Plan. When working with the members, you are expected to review their plan for information such as goals, restrictions or contact information. A copy of each member IPP is provided in Therap. Prior to beginning documentation, all staff is to review and acknowledge the IPP goals in Therap. All staff at Pursuit of Independence is in place to promote recovery, self-determination, independence, positive natural supports and community involvement.
