Shift: Mon-Thurs. 3:30pm-2:00am

Lathe Machinist Description:

The CNC Turning (lathe) Machinist is responsible for setting-up, programming, edit and running computer numeric controlled production equipment to produce precision machined components. Must have 3+ years of hands-on experience operating on CNC machining equipment in a Machine Shop environment. Must have a solid knowledge on how to program and produce a wide variety of machined parts and be able to complete own inspections to established quality requirements. May also be required to use other machine tools (mill, drill, saw, grinding, etc.). Able to read, interpret and use blueprints, drawings, solid models and design sketches, etc. to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product throughout the machining process.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
-Machines metal parts by programming, editing and operating CNC twin-spindle turning equipment from customer stated requirements (drawing, specifications, etc.).

- Creates set-up sheets and tool lists and ensures the continued accuracy of these documents for future runs of the same components/parts.

- Uses knowledge of machine tools, holders and fixtures etc. required to set up and run the equipment efficiently and within run times and cost parameters.

- Verifies machine settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample work pieces adhering to international standards. Inspects and measures machined parts to ensure blueprint specifications are met.

- Perform preventative maintenance on manufacturing CNC equipment. Maintain up-to-date maintenance and calibration schedules.

- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs as required.

- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Supports and participates in all ISO, Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives.

- Must have prior Lead/Supervisory experience in guiding and directing work activities of other operators.

Qualifications/Skills

Minimum 3 years experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.

Experience and understanding of machine programming codes.

Experienced working with and programming using Mazatrol controls.

Experience with setting-up and operating Mazak Twin-Spindle

Turning. Responsible for employee training on this equipment.

Experience with variety of CNC and traditional manual machining machines (lathe, drill, mill, press).

Blueprint reading / first piece inspection knowledge.

Quality focus with drive to ensure that every part produced is a good part.

Skilled in the use of a variety of inspection gages as well as hand and portable tools used in a machine shop.

Detail oriented with strong record keeping and organizational skills.

Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, etc.

Observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of- tolerance conditions and adjusts machine controls; or control media as required.

Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.

Confers with Management, Engineers, Production and Quality personnel, and/or others to resolve technical machining problems.

Complete essential documentation as required.

Assure all policies and Safety procedures are followed and safety precautions are taken at all times to reduce the risk of injury.

Maintain a clean work area and assure safe operation of all equipment.

Complete required preventative maintenance on equipment.

Must have own tools of the trade.

Must be available for Overtime as required.
