Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will support the District's mission and vision and have the primary responsibility to provide comprehensive educational, diagnostic, and therapeutic services to students with speech and language defects. Each teacher will also communicate regularly and effectively with students/teachers/parents.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the education of students and implementation of IEP's
• Work directly with students with special education needs and teams who support these students
• Plans classroom lessons and activities in accordance with the skill level of students; uses techniques and materials to enhance the students' academic abilities
• Diagnoses speech/language problems utilizing a variety of testing tools; conducts formal and informal assessments
• Prepare lessons in accord with PA State Standards and student IEPs
• Implement adaptations for testing and assessment
• Provides language and speech therapy to students with speech/language problems such as delayed speech and language; stuttering, voice disorders, and functional and organic articulation disorders; determines and implements the appropriate therapeutic programs
• Participates in the MDT process of students' evaluation; assists in the development of the IEP, monitors student progress in meeting objectives and goals of the IEP
• Collaborate with School Psychologist to develop Positive Behavior Support Plans
• Collect data and monitor student progress reports
• Work effectively with teacher assistant and other members of the IEP team
• Keep up to date attendance records and child tracking data on each enrolled student
• Assume additional duties as assigned by program Director
• Keeps abreast of new developments in speech/language therapy

Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others

• Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students and patrons of the District
• Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage
• Knowledge of theories and principles of normal child growth and development with emphasis on the effects of speech/language disorder on the educational performance of a child
• Knowledge of PA Core Standards and eligible content
• Knowledge of the special needs and methods of teaching children with speech/language disorders
• Knowledge of the principles, techniques, equipment, and literature used in individual and group treatment of a wide variety of speech/language disorders
• Ability to courageously lead conversations focused on equity, closing opportunity gaps, and equal access to technology-infused lessons of rigor
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment
• Ability to receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems
Education and Experience:
• Master's Degree from accredited college or university
• Valid Pennsylvania Certification: Speech and Language Impaired PK - 12, Speech and Hearing Disorders.
Work Hours:
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, 43 week position
