Pharmacist - Per Diem* (*on call/as needed)

*IMPORTANT NOTE: In lieu of benefits due to "per diem" status, 15% will be added to the hourly rate. Per diem employees are offered work on an "as-needed" basis.


POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the filling and dispensing of medication orders including the proper handling, usage, and storage of drugs in the pharmacy. Maintains standards set by the department and translates policies and procedures into the daily operation of the pharmacy. Responsible for acting as an information resource to patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy and drug related information and literature. Plans and organizes work schedule of supportive personnel and pharmacists, as required.

Minimum Education Required:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D)

License Required:

  • State of Nevada Pharmacist license.

Certificate Required:

  • Current BLS Certification required.

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Ability to communicate with employees, physicians, patients and administrative staff in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Reading, writing, organizing, and filing skills.
  • Professional phone etiquette.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Computer and word processing skills.


POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Medication

  • Responsible for the preparation and distribution of medication orders filled for the inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary areas.
  • Responsible for ensuring the correct labeling of medication containers.
  • Responsible for interpretation of physician medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness, informing them of any errors, omissions, or discrepancies and, based on an evaluation of the patient's condition, suggests appropriate or alternate drug therapy to the physician.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and proper patient medication profiles, monitoring to insure the proper choice of drug, dosage form, strength, length of therapy and interaction potential of the prescribed drug.
  • Responsible for the development, preparation, and compounding of special dosage forms of drugs not commercially available.
  • Responsible for the distribution, control and record keeping of all controlled substances and make proper CII safe entries.
  • Responsible to maintain, inventory and handle all investigational drugs according to federal, state, hospital, and departmental policies. Responsible for some inventory control/purchasing activity as required to maintain departmental inventory at appropriate levels.

  • Communicates requests, suggestions, concerns, or problem areas to Manager.
  • Facilitates problem resolution among peers as observed by Manager and peers.
  • Offers guidance and direction to new personnel and communicates learning needs to Manager.
  • Acts as a role model for other staff when articulating information and perspectives.
  • Anticipates needed information and updates, proactively communicates to Manager, coworkers, and customers.
  • Actively listens to other, perspectives in communications and encourages others to do so; remain open to new viewpoints, ideas and talents.
  • Handles conflict well.
  • Maintains professionalism in verbal and written correspondence
