Overnight Security Offices / Loss Prevention Officer (“LPO”)

Reports to: Manager of Loss Prevention & Risk Management; position is non-exempt

THE ROLE

The Loss Prevention Officer’s main responsibility is protecting all hotel assets, including but not limited to: all guests, visitors, associates, and hotel property (interior-exterior). The LPO is also focused on reducing risk, loss mitigation, safety, and loss prevention for the property, as well as supporting workplace safety and the hotel's response to emergencies.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Patrol all areas of the property, secure rooms, and assist guests with room and in-room safe access
  • Ensure all guestroom doors are closed, and all public access doors are locked, securing all exterior doors throughout your shift
  • Ensure that guests’ names are used throughout your interaction with them
  • Maintain awareness of undesirable persons on property premises and respond accordingly if needed
  • Monitor Closed Circuit Televisions and alarm systems
  • Provide discreet security needs for guests as required
  • Defuse guest disturbances and escort individuals from the property if necessary while working with Birmingham Police when necessary
  • Respond and investigate loss and safety incidents involving guests or hotel personnel
  • Resolve safety hazard situations
  • Assist guests / hotel personnel during emergency situations
  • Prepare daily shift reports and maintain confidentiality of all loss prevention documents, releasing information only to authorized hotel personnel
  • Contact authorities (Police / Fire Department / etc.) during emergency situations
  • Authorize, monitor, and document access to secured hotel areas
  • Ensure follow through on all issues and discrepancies as pertaining to security
  • Maintain knowledge of all hotel functions and services
  • Be aware of guest satisfaction scores and work toward increasing departmental and overall guest satisfaction
  • Practice safe work habits, wear protective safety equipment and follow MSDS and OSHA standards
  • Speak with others using clear and professional language, and answer telephones using appropriate etiquette
  • Listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of hotel associates, guests, visitors, and vendors
  • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Hotel Management
  • Assist with vehicle Valet services as needed

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance and assist with moving, lifting, carrying, and placing of objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time or for an entire work shift – standing is essential
  • Move at a speed that is required to respond to work situations (e.g., run, walk, or jog)
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
  • Move up and down stairs – Ability to climb at least 8 8 flights of stairs regularly

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • MUST HAVE DEMONSTRATED AND PROVEN GUEST SERVICE SKILLS – WE ARE A LUXURY HOTEL AND EXCELLENCE IN GUEST EXPERIENCE IS OUR HIGHEST PRIORITY.
  • EXPERIENCE IN LUXURY HOTEL – HOSPITALITY ENVIRONMENTS REQUIRED
  • MUST ENJOY INTERACTING WITH GUESTS AND THE PUBLIC AND HAVE AN OUTGOING PERSONALITY.

  • POSITIVE, PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE A MUST!
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • High School diploma required, Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred, or an equal combination of education and experience
  • Basic Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Must have 5 years of prior experience as a Loss Prevention or Security Officer
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certified (or obtaining certification within 45 days of hire)
  • Experience in the operation of fire alarm systems (Simplex System)
  • Prepared to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public
  • Ability to work well with people in a team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Bilingual abilities preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Active listening skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
