Department: Aquatics

Job Title: Lifeguard/ Swim Instructor/ Pool Operator

Reports To: Director of Aquatics

Position Purpose: Implements all water safety policies and procedures; supervises members and guests in and around the swimming pool.

Standard Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Vacuums pool bottom; empties automatic skimmer, skims bugs and other debris from surface to prepare pool.
  2. Washes down deck and all deck furniture to prepare for daily use.
  3. Maintains supervision in Youth Room and at the baby pool at all times.
  4. May assist in coaching of the swim team when appropriate.
  5. Supervises and observes swimmers at all times to ensure their safety.
  6. Administers to minor injuries such as small cuts and bruises of swimmers.
  7. Assists in organizing and teaching of swimming clinics and private and group swimming lessons for members as directed by the Director of Aquatics.
  8. Observe daily sanitation requirements of checking water conditions for chlorine and PH (acidity) content.
  9. Enforces rules of conduct.
  10. Checks first aid supplies and reports needed items.
  11. Organizes and monitors pool games at all times.
  12. Places rescue tube and ring buoy on the lifeguard chair in the morning and at the end of the day returns these and all swimming aids and pool toys to the lifeguard locker.
  13. Straightens the pool area at the end of the day.
  14. Maintains all necessary records determined by the Director of Aquatics.
  15. Attends all meetings as directed by the Director of Aquatics.
  16. Performs any and all tasks assigned by supervisor.


Education and Work Experience Qualifications

Must hold current Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications from the American Red Cross, YMCA or other agency approved by the Montgomery County Health Department.

Swim Instructors are preferred to maintain Water Safety Instructor certification from the American Red Cross or similar certification.

Pool Operators must also possess valid Montgomery County Pool Operator’s License.
