JOB OVERVIEW:

It is the primary responsibility of the High School Assistant Principal to oversee student functions, assist the deans with student school-wide issues, oversee the well-being of the student body, oversee communications from teachers to parents, flow of communication about our students, maintain school counseling and advising, and work with teachers from the perspective of student advocacy.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assist Principal with long-range planning.
  • Assist Principal with teacher supervision/observation.
  • Assist Principal with recruitment/hiring.
  • Assist Principal with High School graduation process.
  • Assist Principal with progress reports/communications.
  • Assist Principal with enrollment.
  • Oversee school calendar including calendar requests, field trips, activity requests, and communications home.
  • Oversee substitutes.
  • Oversee lesson plans and marking period objectives.
  • Oversee teacher devotion schedule.
  • Oversee teacher activities (fellowship and staff morale).
  • Oversee campus/student safety and security.
  • Oversee student award process.
  • Oversee revision process of student handbooks.
  • Oversee revision process of Emergency Preparedness Plan.
  • Oversee student discipline.
  • Oversee interviews for new students.
  • Oversee new student/parent attrition.
  • Oversee testing (ordering, assessment, parent communication of testing dates).
  • Co-direct with High School Principal all student incentive programs.
  • Lead student activities.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: A bachelor, graduate, or doctorate degree.
  • Credential: State teaching credential strongly recommended.
  • Credential: ACSI teaching credential required if state credential is not valid. If a candidate hasn't completed either credential, he or she must be willing to complete ACSI credential during employment.
  • Ability to solve a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; nonverbal symbolism; comprehend most abstruse concepts.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through verbal communication.
  • Ability to compute arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to report, write, or edit articles for publication, prepare and deliver lectures; interview, counsel, or advise people; evaluate technical data.
  • Ability to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to perform such activities as balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, 20 feet or more, and at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.
  • Ability to perceive the nature of sounds with no less than a 40 db loss at 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz with or without correction.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position’s duties are normally performed in a standard work environment based on the activity scheduled. Some physical effort is required; therefore, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. He or she may be required to walk or sit for extended periods and may be exposed to outside weather conditions, including but not limited to heat, cold, humidity, rain, and direct sunlight. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as a computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, and other similar machines.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working conditions are dynamic. This requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule that may require occasional weekend and/or evening hours. The employee will be using his or her personal vehicle; therefore, he or she must hold a valid driver’s license in the state where he or she is based and have appropriate auto insurance as required by law. The employee needs to be able to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize work assignments, and do well under pressure. He or she must also demonstrate professionalism and integrity, take initiative, and exercise confidentiality. Finally, the employee must understand and apply all school policies and procedures, follow instructions, be detailed oriented, and have good follow-through on all projects.
