Foundation Overview


HealthWell Foundation is a Forbes 100-rated, Maryland-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to underinsured Americans to help them afford life-changing medical treatments.  Our mission is to reduce financial barriers to care for underinsured patients living with chronic or life-altering diseases.


Job Purpose and Position Overview


All positions at HealthWell are designed to proactively further its efforts in meeting its mission.  Specifically, persons in this position provide expertise to the Foundation in the areas of accounting and financial oversight in cooperation with HealthWell’s Finance department. The Senior Accountant will be heavily involved in reconciliation and business processes including prepaids and other asset and liability accounts.

Persons in this position are expected to be in-office at least three days per week (hybrid) in accordance with the Foundation’s telecommuting policy.

Areas of Responsibility


The Senior Accountant is an integral part of HealthWell’s efficient and effective Finance Department with the following responsibilities:

  • Monthly reconciliation of accounts including accounts payable, payroll accounts, and other liability accounts as needed.
  • Prepares and reviews day-to-day and month end close entries, including fringe, indirect, investment and grant allocations.
  • Complete journal entries as required for successful monthly closing.
  • Review monthly subsequent cash disbursements.
  • Researching and correcting account discrepancies.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly invoicing and drawdowns for specific awards as needed.
  • Assist with audits (internal and external), 990 tax return preparation.
  • Other special projects and tasks as assigned.


Technical Qualifications & Education Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 2-4 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience using accounting software.
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite products.


Preferred Competencies (if applicable only/not required)


  • Experience in non-profit accounting.
  • Willingness to explore emerging accounting technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using Multiview ERP system.
