Job Description

The Regional Accountant - Grants will manage the grant-funding life cycle. This position will oversee and maintain grant revenues and expenditures, implement revenue controls, and ensure timeliness and accuracy of grant reimbursement requests and financial reports for the specific region assigned.

Essential functions

  • Review and understand the financial requirements of grants. Ensure financial recordkeeping is in place to meet requirements.
  • Verify accounting compliance with regulations and agency's policies.
  • Prepare and submit monthly invoices/claims and reimbursement requests.
  • Prepare financial reports for grantors/auditors.
  • Support program managers with budgeting and expenditures related to special funds/restricted funds accounting.
  • Maintain tracking of actual expenditures against budgets.
  • Assist with submission of annual and single audit reports.
  • Track and review data, such as expenditures and inventory records, using spreadsheets and databases.
  • Provide initial approval of grant related invoices in accounts payable system.
  • Manage accounting activities to comply with accounting principles, internal policies, and external audits.
  • Review and reconcile revenue and expenditures to grant contract budget and financial accounting system.
  • Monitor grants for records retention to comply with government requirements.
  • Read and interpret financial reports, statutes, and legal documents.
  • Respond to grant inquiries or complaints from employees and regulatory agencies.
  • Write reports and business correspondence.
  • Present information and training to internal and external stakeholders.
Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related area of study (for example, accounting, finance, business administration, management)
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Technical skills in US GAAP
  • Self-starter, problem solver, flexible, resourceful, process driven and have a high degree of integrity and ethics
  • Advanced level Excel (pivot tables, lookups, advanced formulas, macros, index, conditional list, arrays) and reporting skills; some data mining skills with current working knowledge of enterprise financial ERP i.e. Business Central/Solver/MS Dynamics.
