Job Description

Scope:

The primary responsibility of the Head Golf Professional is to assist the Director of Golf Operations in leading a high level golf operations program. Specific responsibilities include the management of golf operations, retail management, player development, tournament operations, fiscal management and staff development. In addition, the HGP will supervise and schedule Assistant Professionals and Outside Service/Valet Staff. In the absence of the DoGO, the HGP will manage the golf operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Golf Operations Management

  • Assist the Director of Golf with portions of their job duties as needed.
  • In coordination with the Head of Instruction, design, implement and oversee all Player Development programs at the facility.
  • Market and promote all Player Development programs
  • Establish positive relationships with members and guests.
  • Supervise Assistant Professional, Outside Service and Valet Staff.
  • Develop and manage an innovative tournament program, group outings, and leagues that service all customer segments.
  • Ensure the proper storage, safety, and cleaning of golf equipment.
  • Track and verify all players and guests, green fees, golf cars, club care, lockers, handicap fees, and other charges necessary
  • Monitor daily operations of the Golf Shop, accurately recording all daily play.
  • Provide quality golf instruction to members and guests.
  • Oversee the operations of a well managed practice facility and indoor performance center, including keeping an accurate inventory of demo/rental equipment.

Retail Management

  • Oversee retail merchandise in step with the mission of the golf operation and facility.
  • Maintain a profitable golf merchandising option.
  • Develop, maintain, update, and utilize member database.
  • Assist in the development of buying plans and all golf related purchasing.
  • Supervise and train all golf shop staff to create a positive shopping experience for members and their guests.
  • Maintain an attractive and orderly appearance in and around the golf shop.
  • Conduct accurate and timely inventory counts.
Golf Administration
  • Assist the Director of Golf in the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of all golf department staff, while maintaining accurate payroll records.
  • Assist in holding regular staff meetings with golf operations personnel.
  • Update and maintain golf shop policies and procedures and job descriptions and ensure they are adhered to and posted in the proper areas.
  • Maintain safety standards and safety equipment within OSHA requirements.
  • Work closely with and provide guidance and consultation to the Golf Committee.
  • Communicate regularly with Agronomy Department regarding ongoing course maintenance, conditions, etc.

Miscellaneous

  • Assist in the development and preparation of Golf Operations budgets annually
  • Participate as a liaison to the Golf Department in monthly Safety Committee meetings, reporting back important information to all golf operations employees.
  • Communicate regularly with the Clubhouse Manager and Banquets regarding club wide events in order to properly staff and schedule Valet.
Note: Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Vendors: To purchase and receive goods.

Qualifications:

Skills & Abilities:

  • Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Requires a highly professional demeanor with members, guests and staff, adaptability, flexibility and adherence to a strict level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to give clear instructions and comprehend and carry out instructions.
  • Ability to work as a team player and lead by example.
  • Ability to work all shifts, days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to use/understand Trackman 4 , V1 and About Golf Simulator
  • Thorough understanding of The Rules of Golf
  • Proficient in TPP, GHIN, Microsoft Word, Excel, e-mail, and internet.
  • Must be able to play golf at the level the membership will be proud of.

Education/Certifications:

  • 4-year college degree required.
  • PGA member with “A” classification

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience as a lead assistant or Head Golf Professional of an elite private golf club.
  • Experience in corporate or club accounting, administration, budgeting, retail, golf instruction, tournament management, club repair, bag room and locker room operations required.

Working Conditions:

It is required to work weekends and holidays.

It is required to work in fast paced environment.

This position requires to work more than 40 hours per week

Physical/Cognitive Activities:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to play golf.
  • Requires ability to bend, stoop, lift, balance and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to move about freely on a multi-floor building.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather working conditions at times.
