What You Will Do:

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing echocardiographic techniques/procedures which assist physicians in the diagnosis of medical conditions in patients.
Responsibilities and Duties
Obtains the following diagnostic echocardiographic recordings or images following established procedures: Stress echocardiography including stress monitoring, obtaining pre and post exercise images and processing of digital images for physician review.
Echocardiography utilizing echo contrast for improving difficult images in conjunction with other modalities. Cardiac ultrasound following established procedure. Echocardiography utilizing pharmacologic stress protocols including recording images at prescribed stages, patient monitoring and processing digital images for physician review. *
Explains procedure to patient and gives necessary instruction. Prepares patient for procedure including vital signs, attaching monitoring equipment and preparing diagnostic equipment as necessary. Reviews the patient record for test indication and obtains clinical information pertinent to the test. Reviews patient EMR and verifies correct order before initiating test. Reviews patient record to obtain information relevant to testing which may include, but not limited to relevant diagnosis, history and physical, patient height/weight, EKG and other lab data. Performs the appropriate assessment using patient interview, auscultation, palpation and documents appropriate data.
Recognizes and corrects technical problems with technique or equipment which may affect results, abnormal pathology or results which may require additional or modified testing or imaging for optimal evaluation, and serious abnormalities which might require immediate reporting to the requesting physician. Refers any questions regarding appropriateness of therapy or testing to the Lead Cardiac Sonographer or the requesting physician. Completes documentation of testing resulting in proper charging and recording of test.
Maintains supplies and equipment following established procedure, including cleaning and scheduled maintenance.
Assists in providing training to employees and students observing procedures.
Becomes involved and assists with new procedures created by new technology or responsibilities. Studies suggested reference material to new procedures. Completes required hours of Category I continuing education credits per year, including staff meeting and other educational seminars.
*Some advanced echocardiographic techniques and procedures are not performed at all Valley Health facilities.

What You Will Bring:

Education
Graduate of a 2–4-year Allied Health training program required.

Experience
Two (2) years training experience in cardiac sonography (echocardiography) preferred.
Recent graduates of accredited sonography programs are encouraged to apply.

Certification & Licensures
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required *
Requires registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS).
* New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.

Qualifications
Must have the physical, mental and technical skills necessary to perform diagnostic testing of adult cardiovascular patients.
Ability to communicate with physicians, peers and patients on a professional and technical level.
