SUMMARY OF POSITION:
University Gastroenterology (UGI), a leading single specialty, a physician-owned group practice in Rhode Island, has an immediate opening for a full-time GI Nurse Practitioner in Providence RI.
Primary responsibilities will include maintaining an office-based practice, independently and in coordination with onsite physicians. Additionally, the ideal candidate will work as part of our Miriam Hospital UGI physician/NP team, seeing new consults, following up on inpatients, and documenting notes in the Lifespan Epic system. Hospital rounding and office hours will be done in a weekly rotation with other Nurse Practitioners.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver quality care while complying with practice policies, safety regulations, and productivity metrics.
- Facilitate new patient consultation and health history review, diagnose health problems, and detect changes in patient condition.
- Recommend further treatment options or future appointments if needed.
- Communicate with a multidisciplinary team and manage the medical care plans independently and in conjunction with the physician group for an inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology service.
- Coordinate inpatient endoscopic procedures including advanced endoscopic procedures (Endoscopic ultrasound and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography).
- Order and administer tests including bloodwork.
- Review and interpret test results.
- Administer medications/vaccines.
- Provide referrals to other practitioners when necessary.
- Provide after-care/ongoing care information and resources to patients and their families.
- Ensure patient records are kept up to date including test results, immunizations, condition changes, etc.
- Consult with other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Responsible for supervising infusions while in the office.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Patient, compassionate nature.
- Ability to operate as part of a team, alongside physicians and other nurses in both an office and hospital setting.
- Must become familiar with the practice EHR medical charting system.
- Experience with Lifespan Epic system preferred.
- A strong knowledge base of HIPAA and OSHA is required.
- Bilingual is a plus.
