The Co-Response Team Leader

Duties:

  • Provide comprehensive crisis assessment and de-escalation of crisis during encounter, encourage treatment, and provide necessary connections to treatment, as appropriate; including but not limited to mental health appointments, connections to substance use treatment, crisis resources, etc.
  • Co-respond directly with Knoxville Police Department officers to provide crisis intervention and emergency services.
  • Ride in law enforcement vehicle with officer 40 hours a week.
  • Utilize center-wide and community resources for client benefit.
  • Provide initial follow-up within 72 hours of contact and any additional follow-ups as needed.
  • Provide mental health, substance use, suicide prevention, and crisis de-escalation to local law enforcement when requested.
  • Clinician will participate in Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) trainings.
  • Team Lead will provide ongoing supervision and training to Co-Response Clinicians as well as law enforcement.
  • Team Lead will monitor weekly productivity of self and Clinicians.
  • Team Lead will assist in data collection and teaching community partners about Co-Response roles and responsibilities.

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

Summary of role of team:

  • The Co-Response Team Leader is responsible for providing clinical and administrative oversight of the Knoxville Co-Response Team.
  • The Co-Response Team Leader will also be available to work side-by-side (co-respond) with law enforcement in the community to intervene and divert individuals during police encounters.
  • The team leader will triage, assess and identify possible treatment options for identified individuals.
  • The team leader will provide mental health follow-up field calls with law enforcement.
  • Team Leader will be housed at Knoxville Police Department headquarters.
  • Team Leader may be required to work flexible hours.
  • Team Leader will facilitate trainings to law enforcement on mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Team Leader will participate in Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) trainings.

Summary of position:

  • The Knoxville Co-Response Team Lead is to complete the duties required of the Master's Level Co-Response clinicians as well as provide clinical and administrative oversight of the Co-Response Team.
  • The team leader will be housed at Knoxville Police Department headquarters and ride side-by-side with CIT trained KPD officers, 40 hours a week.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDISTIONS/ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is a community-based position working within the Knoxville City limits riding side-by-side with Knoxville Police officers.
  • This position has a non-traditional work schedule.
  • The Co-Response Team Lead is provided with all equipment necessary to remain mobile and be able to work from the community.
  • The Team Lead does have office space within the Knoxville Police Department to complete documentation and meetings.
  • The Co-Response Team Lead will lead Treatment Team and Team Meetings, as well as attend additional meetings with supervisors.

COMPENSATION:

  • Starting salary for this position is approximately $55,551 /yr based on relevant experience and education.

Schedule:

  • This position has a non-traditional work schedule.
  • This position has a schedule of 8am-6pm and rotates between M-Th and Th-Sun.
  • In person attendance is mandatory for this position.
  • There is potential for calls on off days to respond to employees in training.
  • Employee is off on center designated holidays.
  • Job duties are performed in the community.

Travel:

  • Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.
  • Team Leader will only transport clients in an emergency situation and will be reimbursed for use of their vehicle for this.

Equipment/Technology:

  • This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business.
  • Valid driver's license- "F" endorsement required as well as valid, up-to-date insurance.
  • Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.
  • This position does require basic computer skills for timekeeping, data collection, and use of electronic medical records entry.
  • This position also requires adequate knowledge of phone applications to respond to phone calls, e-mails, and to connect to McNabb VPN.

QUALIFICATIONS - Co-Response Team Leader

Education:

  • Must have at least a Master's degree in a health-related field of counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, addictions, or a behavioral science field with course work or experience in the areas of cultural diversity, human development, etiology and treatment of mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse, physical and sexual abuse, suicide, and intellectual disability.
  • Candidates with a Master's degree in rehabilitation, occupational therapy, criminal justice, or education, must have fifteen college-level semester hours of coursework in behavioral health and at least one year of work experience in the behavioral health setting.
  • Experience / Knowledge:
  • One year experience in the social work and addictions field and/or behavioral health and criminal justice setting required.

Physical:

  • Exposure to biological hazards. Hearing of normal and soft tones.
  • Close eye work.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs., frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • This position requires certification in and adequate implementation of verbal and physical de-escalation techniques that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, getting down on knees, running, and walking.
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Must be able to perform job responsibilities on an independent level, may work non-traditional work hours, and co-respond professionally with law enforcement.
  • Must be able to respond to inquiries/concerns from employees as well as community partners.
  • Must have adequate knowledge of community and center resources.
