Who we are and what we do:

The Department of Environment and Conservation exists to enhance the quality of life for citizens of Tennessee and to be stewards of our natural environment. We foster a work environment that's inclusive as well as diverse, where our people can be themselves. Every idea and perspective is valued so that our culture reflects the people we serve. Our Department is committed to providing a cleaner, safer environment that goes hand-in-hand with economic prosperity and increased quality of life in Tennessee. We deliver on our mission through managing regulatory programs that maintain standards for air, water and soil quality while providing assistance to businesses and communities in areas ranging from recreation to waste management. We manage the state park system and programs to inventory, interpret and protect Tennessee's rich natural, historical and archaeological heritage.

How you make a difference in this role:

From its beginning in 1937, Tennessee State Parks were established to protect and preserve the unique natural, cultural, and historic resources of Tennessee. The public interest has also been served by a variety of benefits for citizens and communities produced by our state park system, promoting stronger communities and healthier citizens across the state through diverse resource-based recreation while conserving the natural environment for today and tomorrow - preserving authentic Tennessee places and spaces for future generations to enjoy. As stewards of the resources in our parks, we seek to manage Tennessee's state parks in order to preserve and protect valued resources and to provide a balance of services and benefits for the enjoyment of the people.

Job Overview:

Our Tennessee State Parks are among the most beautiful in the United States. We have an outstanding opportunity to work in a beautiful work environment at Paris Landing State Park Golf Course in Buchanan, TN. The Golf Course Superintendent position is integral to the golf course's operations. The managerial position oversees the maintenance crew in the upkeep and care of a championship 18-hole golf course.

1. Responsible for all golf course grounds maintenance and staff.

2. Perform routine inspections of the irrigation system for leaks and other potential maintenance deficiencies, as well as check the course for any possible improper irrigation.

3. Supervise the mowing of fairways, greens, tees, roughs, and other grounds maintenance. Lead and assist others in the aeration, topdressing, and fertilizing of greens and tees.

4. Participate and/or supervise the mixing and spraying herbicides, fungicides, and other plant protective products, ensuring all chemicals are properly used and stored.

5. Supervise and coach employees on how to perform assigned tasks safely and efficiently to achieve objectives.

6. Keep and maintain required operations records.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in agronomy, horticulture, or other agricultural field related to plant and soil science or turf management is preferred.

Required Experience:

Experience equivalent to three years of increasingly responsible and skilled full-time golf course maintenance work, including the care and maintenance of greens, will be considered a substitute for a degree.
