DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will evaluate compliance with state and federal regulations that pertain to long-term care providers and facilities, and investigate complaints relative to the quality of care, quality of life, and services provided to residents. Work is performed through the application of knowledge, established methods, practices, procedures, policies and regulations related to the various professional disciplines in the health care field. You will demonstrate critical thinking and display professional judgment in your daily work duties. You will conduct surveys to determine facility compliance, analyze data and write reports, review incident reports and provide follow-up, and prepare deficiency statements when necessary.

This position requires irregular work hours. Frequent travel within Allegheny, Westmoreland, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Washington, Armstrong, and Fayette counties is a requirement of this position. You will be required to carry a cell phone and respond to complaints during off-hours. Statewide travel, overnight travel and flexible work hours are required in order to accommodate state and federal mandates. The work requires irregular work hours to meet departmental needs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • The Department of Health provides excellent benefits, contractual pay increases, paid holidays and leave entitlements, and opportunity for advancement.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in audiology, communication sciences and disorders (CSD), cognitive disabilities, gerontology, health administration, nutrition, dietetics, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, psychology, public health, recreational therapies, respiratory therapy, speech-language pathology, social work, nursing home administration, or vocational rehabilitation; and one year of related professional experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of related professional experience.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires successful completion of the relevant provider-specific federally mandated Surveyor Minimum Qualifications training and Test (SMQT) provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services or an equivalent certifying body for the discipline, within one year of hire.
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
