Pepper Construction provides clients the experience and resources of a national company, combined with the hands-on approach of a local company.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Marketing is responsible for all marketing activities, staff and resources used to develop marketing strategies and initiatives that position Pepper in the market, increase sales and gain market share. The role requires a high level of collaboration with the President, operational leaders, business development and PR/Communication professionals, as well as marketing staff in other locations.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Marketing Team and proposed project team to develop and direct differentiator-based strategy, outlines, proposals, qualifications packages and presentation materials for all pursuits
  • Lead preparations for interviews and presentations, applying the knowledge of the particular client, optimal communication and project interviewing skills. Coach and direct the interview team at rehearsals as appropriate
  • Write marketing content and capture the essence of Pepper while working closely with operations team to gather key messages
  • Edit and revise work developed by others prior to publication
  • Manage the Marketing Team and create an enthusiastic, responsive, client-first, service-oriented culture
  • Oversee the Marketing Department with a focus on continuously improving products and processes
  • Conduct formal performance reviews as well as on-going performance coaching for the Marketing Team
  • Seek opportunities to leverage content developed for pursuits for broader purposes (i.e., contribute content to company website through PR/Communications)
  • Manage photography process
  • Partner with PR/Communications to execute corporate brand transition plan
  • Leverage and extend the Pepper brand with each developed deliverable
  • Develop marketing plan, strategies and materials for client communication for vertical markets that align with corporate strategy, in collaboration with Communications and Business Development. Manage to established targets and metrics
  • Partner with Business Development and Communications to communicate strategies that will allow Pepper to convey the company message and ultimately create new client relationships

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT

In managing the Marketing Team and utilizing other firm resources, the Marketing Director will support and partner with Business Development efforts in many ways, including but not limited to the following:

  • Support Business Development (BD) by leveraging firm's expertise, knowledge, contacts and industry knowledge to identify, propose and secure new work for the practice
  • Conducts research to support and prepare for upcoming opportunities
  • Support BD with developed collateral as they seek to build relationships with key clients on an on-going basis and follow their progress to prepare strategy in advance of the issuance of an RFQ or RFP
  • Put together a clear pursuit strategy that illustrates Pepper's value to potential clients
  • Act as a resource to operational teams in our efforts to maintain existing and secure new client relationships
  • Attend pre-proposal meetings, professional meetings or other project-specific and marketing-related events, client organizations and civic events where participation warrants a sufficient return for the investment of time and money
  • Collect, catalog and submit current project data and metrics
  • Collect, catalog and submit marketing intelligence, value propositions, proposals, benchmarking data and metrics

PR / COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT

In managing the Marketing Team and utilizing other firm resources, the Marketing Director will support and partner with PR / Communications activities in many ways, including but not limited to the following:

  • Develop collateral to position Pepper in the market (i.e. special events, functions, conferences, exhibits, speaking engagements, publication, etc.)
  • Collaborate on awards submittals and industry surveys
  • Work closely with PR/Communications on other events and tasks such as the mid-year and yearend meetings and website updates
  • Contribute content to the website and social media outlets

FINANCIALS / METRICS

  • Work closely with President, to develop the annual business plan that will address revenue targets and marketing budgets. Measure and analyze performance of the marketing plan vs. budget on an ongoing basis
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly forecasts and reports for BD and Marketing
  • Responsible for completing GO/NO-GO filters
  • Prepare and track marketing performance metrics including hit rates and pursuit costs
  • Work with operational areas to track performance metrics and marketing budget performance
  • With President and operational leaders, ensure CMiC information is current
  • Track pipeline trends through established reports and contribute to the development of new reports.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree and/or certification in marketing or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in marketing, preferably in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry
  • Active participation in industry organization(s)
  • Ability to manage marketing pursuits by maintaining direction and focus through proactive planning, organized approaches to work and effectively meeting deadlines
  • Ability to create and maintain a collaborative team environment; to build relationships and effectively work with all levels of employees
  • Sets exemplary leadership example by working respectfully, proactively and positively with all colleagues in a team setting
  • Experience in pursuing complex projects and assembling teams
  • Commitment to details and sound sense of design principles
  • Excellent project interviewing strategy skills
  • Possesses strong skills to present complex situations in a clear and simple way
  • Ability to work within a multi-location organization
  • Familiar with marketing concepts and practices
  • Professional demeanor that enables individual to interact with the highest levels, both inside and outside the firm

  • Ability to contribute to and monitor annual business plan
  • Thorough understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and procedures
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) and Microsoft applications
