The SBA Lending Relationship Manager (the "RM") acts in both a business development and subject matter expert role, supporting lead generation, underwriting and management of Small Business Administration ("SBA") and other Government Lending Program ("GLP") lending programs. The RM will interface directly with clients and other teammates, both within the Wholesale Banking Group (the "Group") and Atlantic Union Bank (the "Bank"). The RM's primary role will be to generate and develop new business opportunities, both through individual prospects and alongside other Relationship Managers (within the Wholesale and Business Banking LOBs). The RM will not be responsible for the direct ownership or management of relationships; rather, the RM will align with other Relationship Managers to support, specifically, SBA and GLP lending products. The RM will play a vital role in the growth and development of the Group's Commercial & Industrial ("C&I") portfolio and market share, while driving significant fee income. Primary focus will be to develop new prospects to the Bank and cross-sell SBA and GLP lending products to the existing client base.

Position Accountabilities

  • Works closely with internal partners to facilitate the development of new SBA and GLP lending opportunities, as well as develop prospects through lead lists and Centers of Influence (COI).
  • Develops and maintains a quality lending opportunities with an emphasis on companies with revenues between $5 - $75 million, working with Relationship Managers in the Wholesale and Business Banking LOBs to cross-selling other Bank products and services along with building strong customer relationships.
  • Maximizes bank profitability through appropriate pricing of new loan originations, generating fee income through sale of SBA and other Government Guaranteed debt, and assisting in the cross selling of all bank products and services, including Treasury Services products
  • Prepare correspondence, commitment letters, loan memorandums and associated documents as required.
  • Expand existing knowledge base of commercial and other products and services, including loan policy, documentation, structuring and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies and successfully capitalizes on cross-sell opportunities and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Executes a call program to develop new customer relationships and to identify potential customers and develop prospect lists.
  • Assist in mentoring teammates and acting as a subject matter expert (SME) for SBA and GLP loans, to include product training and ad credit analysis and underwriting.
  • Provides financial advice to customers and profitably sells appropriate SBA and GLP products to prospects and clients.
  • Ensures that own work is in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations and guidelines.
  • Participate in organizations and projects to establish referral contacts and Centers of Influence (COI) within the community.

Organizational Relationship

This position typically reports to the Director of SBA and GLP Lending.

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, or finance preferred or equivalent banking experience
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial banking experience, with experience in SBA and GLP lending

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong credit skills evident
  • Ability to service and originate SBA and GLP loans
  • Proficient in analyzing complex financial statements and credit applications
  • Knowledgeable of typical collateral documentation - title insurance, deeds of trust, assignment of rents & leases, hazard insurance, flood insurance, UCC filings, etc.
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving and excellent collaboration and inter-personal communication skills
  • Strong professional writing skills
  • Ability to make knowledgeable loan decisions based on information supplied by the customer verified through a rigorous underwriting process, strong ability to structure loans
  • Proven track record with sales and new business development in conjunction with exceeding sales goals.
  • Ability to work well in a sales driven environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, initiative, dependability and ability to work with minimal direction
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulatory compliance related to commercial lending

Proficient computer skills with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word and Outlook

Salary offered will be based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. This position is also eligible to participate in either an applicable incentive compensation plan for the position or a discretionary profit sharing bonus program. Salary range for this position is $115,79 to $193,861 and will be determined on the selected candidate's qualifications.
