                                                            Upper School History/Social Studies Teacher

                                                                              Position Announcement


Opportunity:

Wakefield School, located in The Plains, Virginia, seeks a dynamic and innovative Upper School teacher who loves working with young people, to serve as a member of its faculty beginning in August of 2024. This full-time position, which includes benefits, would include Upper School classes in social studies and advising students in that division.

Wakefield strives to ensure an engaging, purposeful, and collaborative experience, allowing students and faculty to thrive. This position is well served by a teacher with a desire to connect with students, design program offerings and experiences to enhance student learning, and grow with the needs of the School. Especially exciting is the opportunity to develop curricular offerings connecting interdisciplinary approaches to civic engagement and service learning.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Authentically engage with students embracing the unique culture of Wakefield School. 
  • Embrace and model a culture of excellence, innovation, and evolution in curriculum and instruction.
  • Serve as an advisor and advocate for students, including the academic and personal growth needs of assigned advisees. 
  • Serve as an engaged faculty member collaborating with others in setting the professional practices and curriculum for the school. 


Qualifications and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree with a major concentration in history and/or education is required.
  • The preferred candidate will have:
  • Master’s degree and/or Commonwealth of Virginia certification;
  • Relevant classroom experience, including Upper School history instruction;
  • Technological proficiency in the classroom, including Google Educational apps, interactive whiteboards, and electronic grade books;
  • Growth mindset and willingness to pursue ongoing professional development;
  • Experience with coaching and/or club sponsorship;
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
