Physician Assistant - Neurosurgery

GiaCare Inc. is accepting applications for a Civilian Physician Assistant - Neurosurgery position at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

Qualifications:

Education: Be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Training Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or it predecessors as long as the license has been maintained uninterrupted.

Certification:

• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advance Life Support (PAL)

Experience: Have one (1) year of orthopedic spine or neurosurgical clinical experience preferred

Licensure: Possess a valid unrestricted Physician Assistant License in at least one state, territory or commonwealth of the United States.

Duties:

• Operates independently and works collaboratively with physicians, residents, physician assistants and nurses in the management of complex neurosurgical problems. Performs comprehensive and problem focused physical examinations, interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests. Interprets and correlates subjective and objective data. Formulates a differential diagnosis and a working diagnosis.
• Develops a treatment plan for neurosurgical conditions within the scope of practice of the contract Physician Assistant. Implements therapeutic intervention for specific conditions where appropriate.
• Be able to perform as first assistant on all neurosurgical procedures to include craniotomies, spinal procedures, and peripheral nerve cases. Conduct hospital rounds on all patients including intensive care units, write orders, progress notes, perform history and physicals.
• Provides follow-up care as necessary to ensure continuity of care. May prescribe medication for disease of the brain, central nervous system, spinal cord, peripheral nervous systems within his or her scope of practice.
