Overview:

A Directory Services Implementation Specialist designs and implements directory services utilized as foundational building blocks for Identity & Access Management solutions. Typically, the work is performed remotely, but travel to a customer’s site is oftentimes required.  A Directory Services Implementation Specialist must be as comfortable on the whiteboard as they are with the keyboard.  This means that they must be able to articulate the directory strategy recommended for a customer to adopt, guide customers on best practices surrounding directory design and integration within a larger solution, demonstrate the components and protocols leveraged by the directory service, and implement those capabilities in either proof of concept or enterprise implementations.

Job Description:

Directory Services Solution Specialist

The Directory Services Implementation Specialist is responsible for developing and delivering enterprise directory solutions to our growing customer base.  This is often a core component of an overall identity management deployment and consists of:  requirements definition, design, implementation, testing, go-live, and transition to support.  This is both an architectural and technical role and as such requires high level business acumen coupled with deep technical knowledge of directory services products and system design principles.  


Along with being an extremely technically proficient individual, this position also requires the candidate to have exceptional personnel and time management skills as well as excellent verbal and written communications skills.  


This is a remote work position with minimal travel possible.


Responsibilities:

  • Articulate the business and technical benefits of enterprise directory services
  • Describe how directory services fit within an overall identity management solution
  • Captures and defines customer business and technical requirements
  • Create and define business, functional and application architecture designs as per business requirements
  • Maps requirements to use cases, use cases to solutions and solutions to product features
  • Understand and demonstrate best practices for extending the directory schema, designing directory trees, and deploying enterprise directory solutions across a global deployment
  • Deliver internal and customer-facing projects
  • Create customer-facing documentation including architectural design, requirements, and test plans 
  • Perform technical training and directory services workshops either in-person or remotely
  • Provide ongoing support to an existing customer base
  • Participate in continuous learning (both formal and informally)
  • Work with the support team to define, design, implement, and maintain the tools necessary for providing support to our customer base.  This includes applications, scripts, and/or tools used by the support team for gathering, diagnosing, or otherwise providing support of the customer’s operating system and/or directory services and/or connected systems.
  • Travel as necessary


Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of identity and access management principles
  • Strong understanding of LDAP directory servers and their place in identity and access management solutions
  • Hands on experience with Sun Directory Service, Oracle Directory Server (ODSEE), NetIQ eDirectory, ForgeRock DS and/or Microsoft Active Directory
  • The ability to perform data mapping, which includes directory servers as either the source or target of the mapping
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and supporting directory schemas, ACIs, privileges, indexes, and policies
  • The ability to deploy multi-master replication clusters across a global enterprise
  • Experience migrating from one directory platform to another (i.e. ODSEE to DS)
  • Experience in load generation tools like Apache JMeter, Grinder, ForgeRock DSRK, SLAMD
  • Experience monitoring and tuning directory servers to meet application performance requirements
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify complex software, hardware, and systems issues
  • Experience working with Linux based systems and scripting technologies, such as shell, Perl, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify complex software, hardware, and systems issues
  • Ability to work within a distributed team across multiple time zones
  • Desire to continue to develop personal skill set in a proactive environment

Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of ForgeRock’s products (AM, IDM, DS and IG)
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or Salt
  • Experience with virtual environments (such as Amazon EC2)
  • Experience in Agile delivery
  • Experience with Jira


Experience and Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ hands-on experience implementing one or more of the following:
    • Directory Services (Sun DS, ODSEE, eDirectory,FR DS, MS AD, etc)
    • Enterprise directory solutions
  • A minimum of two (2) years' software development experience
