Job Title:                  Welder Fabricator

Division:                   Custom Metals

Reports To:             Metal Fabrication Shop Supervisor

FLSA Status:           Non-Exempt



POSITION SUMMARY

This position welds and fabricates objects and assemblies from various types of metal including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Position will require the coordination with other welders and trades. Position will be required to fabricate stairs, handrails, guardrails, and other miscellaneous metal objects as required. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (“Incidental” job duties may be included but must be indicated.  Other essential and incidental job duties may be assigned.

  • Read and understand blueprints and engineering plans and develops and design welding or fabrication projects.
  • Responsible to review work plans and drawings to identify potential conflicts and correct prior to fabrication.
  • Review and update fabrication drawings as needed.
  • Maintain and submit as built drawings for projects.
  • Fabricate stairs, handrails, guardrails, and other miscellaneous metal objects as required.
  • Operate shop equipment, forklifts, various types of welders and fabrication equipment.
  • Responsible for self-development. Take necessary training to remain current with welding and fabrication techniques, tools, and equipment.
  • Responsible to inspect welds and fabrication of all projects. Ensure inspection includes the review of welds for durability as well as meeting specified standards.
  • Inspect and examine to determine if repairs or new equipment is needed.
  • Identify materials or equipment that will need protection before welding, grinding or fabrication commence.
  • Take a leadership role in shop or field operations when a foreman is not present or available.
  • Build and develop trusting relationships with current customers and seek to identify opportunities to grow our customer base and build positive relationships.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE (Include necessary license and specialized training.).

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Shop Fabrication
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Obtain and maintain a current CDL
  • Must have proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering plans and create detailed shop drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to fabricate and lay out, cut, fit, measure and weld various metals to create the desired shape or object.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of many fabrication techniques and tools.
  • Proven ability to weld Stainless Steel and Aluminum handrails, guardrails, tube, pipe and structural members
  • Ability to use heavy machinery, such as forklifts and cranes
  • Basic math skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read blueprints and recognize welding symbols and specifications
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices
  • Knowledge of specific welding processes, such as GTAW, GMAW, SMAW and FCAW.
  • AWS Certified D1.1. Required
  • AWS Certified D1.2 and D1.3 Preferred.
  • Proficiency in cutting metal using oxy-acetylene and plasma operations.
  • Knowledge of specific use of shop equipment including, shear, press, ironworker, drill press, various metal cutting saws etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 60 pounds and move up to 10 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
