Community Maternity Services (CMS) has an opening for a full time Assistant Manager at the Farano Center for Children. The Assistant manager is responsible for providing management of the functions and activities of the Farano Center and the supervision of staff. The Residential Manager and Assistant Manager will coordinate duties to ensure the best possible care for residents. These responsibilities will be consistent with the philosophy, objectives, and procedures of CMS.

The Assistant Manager will perform the following duties:

  • Oversee the provision of care to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the clients.
  • Monitor the provision of childcare for residents.
  • Be responsible for giving clients their medications.
  • Be responsible for cooking meals for clients and assisting youth to develop this skill.
  • Provide assistance with household duties, such as vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, and sanitizing surfaces daily.
  • Assist in developing and oversee scheduling of shifts to ensure coverage.
  • Develop and coordinate the schedule of residential client activities as appropriate (medical, educational, group interventions, counseling, social, recreational).
  • Transport clients (using agency vehicle) to visitations, school and/or other activities.
  • Provide bi-weekly supervision to all assigned staff and monthly supervision to assigned relief staff. Supervision can be provided via a combination of individual and group meetings. Provide more frequent supervision sessions, as necessary, for employees experiencing job performance issues and/or employees in their introductory employment period.
  • Complete performance evaluations on all assigned staff.
  • Participate in all meetings regarding the Farano Center (staff meetings, treatment team meetings, resident meetings, etc.).
  • Maintain and ensure the upkeep and overall cleanliness of the house, including designating tasks to both staff and clients daily.
  • Oversee administration of residence rules and recommend changes as needed, including but not limited to, all behavioral management plans.
  • Review client logs and communication logs and follow-up accordingly.
  • Utilize and adhere to the commitments and tools of a trauma-informed model.
  • Employ the techniques of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention as necessary and as indicated in individual programs.
  • Provide on-call coverage which may include reporting to cover shifts when necessary. All shifts are AWAKE shifts.
  • Participate in in-service training and regular supervisory meetings. Trainings may occur outside of normal assigned shift.
  • Adhere to all practices, procedures and policies as outlined in the Health Facilities License.

Perform all other duties as assigned by the Residential Manager, the Associate Executive Director or the Executive Director.

This is a full time position with evening hours (2-10 pm) and includes an on-call rotation (generally every 7-8 weeks.) Interested candidates should have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of relevant experience working with youth, 2 of which have been in a supervisory role. Experience in foster care, child welfare, trauma informed care, mental health needs and behavioral needs are preferred but not required. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with youth in foster care.

Candidate must possess a valid NYS driver’s license, be able to walk up and down stairs, as well as lift/carry up to 40 lbs. and demonstrate a full range of motion. All applicants must pass pre-employment screenings through the New York State SCR, the New York State Justice Center’s Staff Exclusion List and the Justice Center’s Criminal Background Check, which includes fingerprinting.
