Howard University Hospital seeks to hire a Echocardiograph Technologist in the EEG Services Department who will embrace our rich and historic tradition of excellence. The EEG Technologist: Monday -Friday 8am - 430pm ( no weekends required)
Performs routine and complex encephalographic (EEG), neurodiagnostic procedures utilizing various monitoring equipment and recording observations to collect diagnostic patient data used in detecting brain and cardiovascular disorders. Participates in facility and departmental process improvement initiatives as may be required.

Responsibilities:
  • Consistently performs technically adequate EEG/EMG/EP's tests. Performs standard and complex neurodiagnostic procedures in the laboratory and in the critical care areas. Demonstrates accurate lead placement prior to performance of neurodiagnostic test. Enters required information prior to performance of neurodiagnostic test. Adapts procedures to a variety of clinical circumstances as well as the patient's age. Applies electrodes in non-standard.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains neurodiagnostic equipment as per department protocol. Reports patients or associate injuries as per established protocol. Demonstrates compliance with Standard Precautions when appropriate.
  • Completes all related clerical procedures. Ensures completeness of required patient data prior to billing and interpretation. Adequately completes all department and system billing requirements in a timely manner. Maintains statistics as required. Directs reports and confirmed EEG/EMG/EP's as per department protocol.
  • Completes all related procedures prior to performance of test procedure. Assists with planning, coordinating, and scheduling of neurodiagnostic tests in a timely manner. Clarifies testing request in ambiguous situations. Assesses the patient to determine their physical and emotional needs. Communicates information about specific tests) to the patients and/or family explaining procedure prior to testing. Assists in maintaining internal and external neurodiagnostic supply inventory.
  • Consistently performs technically adequate evoked potential tests. Demonstrates accurate visual acuity testing to determine appropriate stimulation settings. Determines patient's hearing threshold prior to performing the procedure. Demonstrates accurate lead placement prior to performance of evoked potential testing. Plots latencies, interpeak latencies and amplitudes of waveforms following evoked potential testing.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with neurodiagnostic equipment. Transmits stored neurodiagnostic tests and archives as appropriate. Edits patient information, test data and confirmed interpretations.
  • Prepares written documentation, such as preliminary interpretations, individualized treatment plans and progress reports, as required by physician and department.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive.

Requirements:
Education- Bachelor’s Degree in a health related field. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, preceptor training with competency validation in a neurodiagnostic educational program.
Associates degree in allied health or natural sciences and five (5) years as an EEG Technician acceptable.
Experience: Four (4) years of clinical or EEG experience.
Certification and Licensure- Certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologies is desired but not required.
BLS certification through American Heart Association
