Were currently seeking a dedicated Braille Specialist to join our team as an Alternative Media Technician. In this role, youll play a crucial role in enriching the educational experience for students with vision impairments. Responsibilities include:
  • Crafting tactile maps and graphs as requested.
  • Supervising and managing the inventory of necessary supplies for daily job duties.
  • Demonstrating expertise in proper English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Organizing materials efficiently to ensure they are readily available for students in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining detailed records of all transcriptions and appropriately labeling electronic files for future reference.
  • Establishing and curating a resource file to explore alternative sources of braille, large print, or electronic materials.
  • Collaborating closely with the Teacher of Students with Vision Impairments (TSVI) to make essential adaptations of materials for students.
  • Staying abreast of technological advancements in computer technology relevant to braille production and interfaces with assistive technology used by students.
  • Converting various materials, including books, workbooks, testing materials, and classroom assignments, into accessible formats like braille, large print, and electronic versions for students with visual impairments.

Requirements
  • Possession of Washington State License and Certification for Braillist role.
  • Submission of fingerprints to OSPI (Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction) prior to employment commencement.
