Human Resource Professional – Full-time

Job Summary: The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the improvement and preservation of sight by providing services, education, advocacy and innovation. POB is seeking a full-time Human Resource (HR) Professional to carry out the day-to-day HR functions to meet the needs of the organization. Duties would include but not limited to: HR compliance, HRIS, benefits, full cycle recruiting for new employees and volunteers, community outreach, and employee relations. This position requires a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information is required.

Job Location; Capitol Hill, 5-minute walk from Union Station, Hybrid Remote Salary Range: $68,000 - $73,000

Responsibilities:

  • Good understanding of full cycle recruiting; Perform the recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding of all new employees and volunteers.
  • Community and Internal outreach; working with all departments and community organizations to recruit new employees and volunteers and develop new partnerships.
  • Communicate with all department of the organization to identify opportunities and needs for volunteers.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and review compensation and benefits packages. Explain benefits, general terms, and conditions to employees. Conducts annual open enrollment elections for all benefits.
  • Implement training and development plans for employees and volunteers.
  • Perform simple accounting tasks and payroll processing.
  • Keep employee and volunteer records updated.
  • Ensure a healthy workplace by providing HR procedures.
  • Plan and execute annual employee performance reviews.
  • Evaluate employees' professional development needs and design programs to meet them.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety (OSHA); and training and development.
  • Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Proven work experience as an HR professional
  • Leadership skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Hands-on experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Strong customer service skills, including written, verbal, computer skills.
  • Basic accounting and Payroll processing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
  • Employment is contingent upon completing a pre-employment background check.
  • A high degree of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to confidentiality
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), and Google Suite
  • Must have a valid driver's license in the DC Metro Area.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.

Qualifications:

  • US Citizen
  • A bachelor's degree is required, and 3 years of HR experience. At one year with a Nonprofit
  • SHRM-CP or PHR preferred.
  • Familiar with ADP, Paychex, and QuickBooks
