Flooring Line Grader

Position Type: Hourly

Shift: Days

Reports To: Flooring Line Manager

General Description:

The Flooring Line Grader shall work to ensure all actions reflect the company culture, work meets or exceeds company standards, and values and working environment reflects that as outlined by the Mill Manager. The primary objective of the Flooring Grader is to identify milling grade defects and stack into the appropriate classification according to KLC standards. The Flooring Grader will operate in a way that is efficient and productive while supporting the safety mission and standards as outlined at Kennebec Lumber Company.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the different grades of wood and identify any defects present in the boards.
  • Ensure that the Nesting stations are set up according size and species of wood.
  • Grade and identify any defects in the wood and send material to the Jump Saw as needed.
  • Grade and stack wood flooring into the appropriate classification
  • Follow all change over and end of day procedures
  • Keep workspace organized, clean and stay productive during downtimes
  • Follow all LOTO (Lock out Tag out) procedures as needed
  • Strapping packs/bundles of flooring with a strapping device
  • Perform spot checks to ensure quality control
  • Maintain good working relationships with all team members and supervisors
  • Participate in all trainings
  • Engage in all site safety practices and culture
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Miscellaneous Requirements:

  • Safety First – Personal Protective Equipment
    1. Steel or Safety Toe footwear is required in all areas.
    2. Gloves required in designated areas – per task in mill.
    3. Hearing Protection required in all areas (Exception being inside the cab of outside machine forklifts).
    4. Eye Protection required in all areas
    5. Report all near misses and unsafe acts to Flooring Mill Manager.
    6. Pedestrian awareness at all times.
    7. Florescent vests and hard hats are required for all outside activity (Exception, pedestrian travel from one building to another).
    8. Never walk through any overhead door that is controlled remotely (Always use access door next to overhead).
    9. Familiarize yourself with the various work areas. Learn how to operate the conveyor belts and the emergency stop buttons.
    10. Familiarize yourself with the various possible pinch points that are in your area.

  • Physical Requirements
    1. Bend, stretch & twist multiple times daily.
    2. No lifting more than 10 lbs.
    3. No pushing/pulling more than 10 lbs.
    4. Moderate to Heavy wrist / hand repetitions.
    5. Stand for long periods of time.
    6. No allergies to sawdust, particles in the air (respiratory concerns).
    7. Ability to work in all weather conditions (below 0 degrees temps to over 90-degree temps).
    8. Ability to work swiftly and accurately.

  • Other Requirements
    1. Pick up after yourself and during downtimes.
    2. Participate in the department housekeeping program
    3. Work area must be kept clean at all times.
    4. Excellent hand / eye coordination.
    5. Analytical skills and problem solving in a fast-paced environment.
    6. Attention to detail.
    7. Read and write proficiently.
    8. Apply general math skills.
    9. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
    10. Must be in working station at the buzzer.
    11. Additional training as required.
