POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Nursing (RN) will administer the Nursing Services under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the facility, and local, state and federal regulations, to maximize the fulfillment of care-giving needs of the residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job, an individual must perform essential functions satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation; including, but not limited to: 

  • Orient, instruct and supervise other nursing personnel
  • Evaluate resident’ condition and care and assist in the development overall care plans for residents, and restorative activities
  • Perform emergency procedures such as Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Assist in organizing, managing, reviewing, monitoring, authorizing and administering nursing care functions for residents within the facility
  • Assist with the scheduling report of personnel; as well as the daily assignments of individuals working in the Nursing Services Department
  • Assist the DON with evaluating the competencies of nursing staff
  • Assist in determining the staffing needs of the Nursing Services Department, recommendation of number of employees needed, and assist with the recruitment and hiring of Nursing Service personnel
  • Assist in arranging for and overseeing resident admissions, transfers and discharges

Required Work Experience: 

  • Preferred Two (2) Years’ experience in supervision of others in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other health care institution
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience implementing total patient care and care planning
  • Minimum of (6) months experience in geriatric and/or psychiatric nursing

Licensing/Certification/Education Requirements:  

  • Registered Nursing (RN) Degree required
  • Minimum of a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alabama 
  • Current CPR Certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Job will require frequent lifting of objects up to 40 pounds.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Supervises support staff including scheduling and assigning work, reviewing performance, recommending salary increases, promotions or discharges
