Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a motivated System Engineer to join our 3GPP Services Team. As the Service Link System Engineer, you'll be responsible for supporting the development of the SV-UE service link and implementation of the OBP waveforms. Additional responsibilities will include performing RF/RFI systems analysis and simulations, as well as development & maintenance of the required service link budgets. In this role, your primary focus will be all technical aspects of the architecture and design of given projects. You'll be successful in this role if you have extensive experience in Systems Engineering and in-depth knowledge of both space and ground networks.

What You'll Do:

    Ensure system engineering best practices and processes are applied to ground and payload controller systems developed for various external projects
  • Be responsible for exercising technical authority over areas assigned and work closely with the Program Management Office to determine resource needs, technical development schedules and major milestones
  • Perform requirements analysis, definition, decomposition and management for project-based services, conduct required system analysis (functional & performance), interface definition, and detailed trade studies
  • Lead the segment technical team in support of major program increment reviews
  • Manage the coordination and delivery of multiple or complex technical assignments designed with end goals in mind, including managing shifting priorities
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand how complex issues are affecting project operations and identify and design the formation of innovative solutions from concept through to completion
  • Comfortably present complex results with limited preparation and develop ability to speak persuasively to those within the team
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and ability to build relationships with senior leadership

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

Things You Must Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field of study (Degree in engineering, mathematics, or science preferred)
  • 10+ years related system experience for complex technical projects, preferably direct experience in telecommunications, ground networks, electronic products development/manufacturing of satellites
  • Experience with L-Band and K-Band communications, as well as creating satellite link budgets
  • Working knowledge of 3GPP services and standards
  • Strong knowledge of system engineering methodologies
  • Strong familiarity with tools and software applications that support system engineering best practices

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Knowledge of and experience with aspects of the Hardware Software Development Life Cycle process including Agile development
  • Programming languages such as: Java, JavaScript, Python, Shell scripting
  • Working knowledge of networking protocols, routers, switches, etc.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Tool Suite

We'll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel up to 25%

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
