The Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial aspects of the construction projects at Petersburg Power Station. The primary role is to ensure accurate financial reporting, cost control, and compliance with accounting standards.

Primary Duties:

  • Financial Planning and Reporting - Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, accruals and financial models. Prepare regular financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance analysis. Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to review project financial performance and address any financial issues or risks.
  • Cost control and analysis - Track and analyze project expenses, including materials, labor, subcontractor costs, and other project-related expenditures. Conduct cost analysis to identify areas of potential cost savings and efficiencies. Assist in preparation of project cost estimates and budgets. Monitor and reconcile project invoices, purchase orders, and contracts. Reconcile project ledger expenses to approved project estimate, forecast remaining costs, and provide final cost projections compared to the latest approved estimate.
  • Financial compliance - Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal financial policies. Coordinate with auditors to facilitate financial audits and reviews. Prepare and submit tax-related documents, including tax returns and compliance reports. Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation.
  • Project accounting and billing - Review project invoices, progress billing, and change orders. Monitor and follow up on accounts payable to ensure timely payment of invoices. Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and vendors regarding financial matters. Provide financial guidance and support to project team, including cost tracking and budget analysis.
  • Financial systems and software - Utilize accounting software and other financial tools to manage project finances. Implement and maintain effective financial systems and controls. Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation in financial management.
  • Collaboration and communication - Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, and procurement, to ensure accurate financial data and reporting. Communicate financial information and analysis to project stakeholders, management, and other relevant parties. Provide financial guidance and support to project teams, addressing any queries or concerns.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years proven experience as a project accountant or in a similar role within the construction industry, preferably power plant construction projects.
  • Preferred SAP experience.
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, cost control, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting regulations and standards.
