Overview

Position is on the staff of a private, government consulting firm located in McLean, VA. Work is sponsored by Federal Government departments and agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Defense.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be part of an analytical team that supports public health systems management projects with a primary focus on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). He/She will produce reports and insights that inform CMS policy. He/She will provide outstanding client service, be a part of a small team of data analysts, interpret policy through data analysis, and demonstrate data analysis skills (e.g., SAS/SQL/Python/Excel.)

Each day may require the candidate to:

    Learn and apply relevant federal policy and regulations to data analysis;
  • Understand complex and organization-specific datasets;
  • Interface with client and negotiate deliverable scope and timelines;
  • Perform and/or oversee analyses to answer routine and ad hoc questions about health systems, population health and regulatory compliance and be able to explain the significance of those analyses to non-technical stakeholders;
  • Develop and improve standard operating procedures;
  • Communicate with systems development experts to design tools and applications to automate the fulfillment of repeat requests; and
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Demonstrated passion for health policy.
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, PPT) skills required. Applicant may be required to perform demonstration of Excel or analytical skills.
  • 0-1 years' experience providing outstanding client service in federal consulting.
  • 0-1 years' experience in data analysis and reporting in client-facing role.
  • 0-1 years' experience writing automated processes in SAS and/or SQL, Python, STATA, R or similar language.
  • Superior communication and writing skills on technical subjects. Ability to provide narrative context of data analysis to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to absorb large amounts of new technical and policy knowledge without a lot of guidance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering outstanding products and service that meet or exceed our client's expectations.
  • Ability to multi-task between complex projects during seasonal peak periods.

Preferred:

  • Degree in Public Health, Health Care Policy, Public Policy or Health Care
  • Experience with audits, compliance, or monitoring.
  • Experience communicating business requirements to system development experts.
  • Moderate Python, SAS and/or SQL skills is a plus.
  • 1-3 years' of experience analyzing any of the following (claims/encounter data, plan benefit package, enrollment, quality and/or provider data).
  • 1-3 years' experience in federal consulting performing in an analytic role using Python, SAS and/or SQL.
  • 1-3 years' experience applying best in class coding practices (e.g., pair coding) and using tools such as Confluence/GitHub for documentation and version control.
  • Experience building and overseeing automated data pipelines.
