Overview:

The HME Driver/Equipment Technician is responsible for delivery and set-up of all durable medical equipment and supplies efficiently; provides quality, effective instructions/teaching to patients/clients as appropriate, and picks up equipment in a timely manner as directed. The HME Driver/Equipment Technician must maintain a high level of competency and knowledge of equipment used within the HME Department.



Responsibilities:

The HME Driver/Equipment Technician will be responsible to assist with and/or perform the following as assigned or directed:

  1. Obtain completed required signatures and dates on all forms given to the patient/client;
  2. Makes sure all in incoming equipment is properly bagged and tagged, when available;
  3. Performs and assist with cleaning of all equipment returned to the warehouse;
  4. Assist with minor repairs of equipment, as needed;
  5. Assist with retail sales and be knowledgeable of supplies, prices and reimbursement issues;
  6. Assist with inventory control as directed
  7. Maintain the cleanliness of the warehouse area;
  8. Maintain a properly stocked delivery vehicle, including cleanliness of exterior and interior areas;
  9. Responsible for safe operation and routine care of the delivery vehicles;
  10. Ability to recognize the need for and performs additional unassigned tasks and seeks out additional tasks/job duties during idle times between deliveries;
  11. Responsible for managing and completing educational requirements as assigned;
  12. Be familiar with and adhere to all regulatory and safety procedures that apply;
  13. Responsible for observing confidentiality at all times;
  14. Performs all above duties as assigned by the HME Warehouse Supervisor;
  15. Performs all above duties and others as assigned by the Manager of Home Medical Equipment Departments.

This position participates in a rotating on-call schedule for HME equipment after business hours, holidays and weekends. This position is responsible to the Manager Home Medical Equipment Departments.



Qualifications:
  1. Education & Experience: High School Diploma or Equivalent, minimum 3 years experience in delivery driving, excellent driving record, and previous home medical equipment experience preferred.

  1. Specialized Skills and Knowledge: Ability to communicate effectively with general public, patients, fellow staff members, department managers, vendors, physicians and others; understanding of basic and some complex functions of the computer and software, and working knowledge of phone, fax, scanner and copy machine systems. Able to safely operate the delivery vehicle in all types of weather conditions. Functional knowledge of maintenance tools and usage. Workable knowledge of Microsoft applications including Excel spreadsheet, Word, and Outlook.

  1. Working Conditions: Inside and outside environment, not always protected from the weather and temperature changes. Inside environmental changes are mainly those inside patient homes. Those can include temperature variations, smoke, unclean homes, various sizes and types of pets, and structural faults/barriers. Subject to frequent exposure to infection, contagious diseases, and hazardous materials and equipment. Subject to combative patients, dysfunctional families and varying relationships.

  1. Physical Demands and Traits: Must be able to 1) perceive the nature of sounds by ear; 2) express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word; 3) perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes; 4) extend arms and hands in any direction; 5) seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hands; 6) pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers; 7) perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and 8) stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Requires the strength to lift a minimum of 75 pounds without assistance and occasionally move or lift equipment weighing in excess of 125 pounds without assistance.
