POSITION SUMMARY:

The Certified Nursing Assistant promotes quality of life and a home environment by knowing the residents and from the framework of that knowing providing assistance with activities of daily living, and other direct care to residents as outlined in the interdisciplinary care plan, guided by the facility policies and under the direction of a licensed nurse.

The Overlook has a Vision to design a mixed-use Community beyond its singular function as a Retirement Community, a pedestrian-friendly, walkable "Village Center" environment, with select retailers, restaurants featuring fresh, locally sourced food, a brewery, a large banquet, and events center, enriching programs, health and wellness-focused on mind, body and spirit, and more. The Overlook’s bucolic setting on 450 acres of beautiful New England countryside, 16 miles of nature trails, a dog park, and a wealth of amenities offer limitless possibilities in helping us reposition our Campus.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are normal for this position.  This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Recognize the autonomy and dignity of all residents.
Communicate a sense of caring, concern, and dignity for residents.
Understand how to place decision-making in the hands of the residents whenever possible and appropriate.
Make prompt and accurate judgments with regard to resident care and emergencies.
Work and communicate effectively as part of the unit team.
Serves on facility committees and work teams as assigned.
Participates in interdisciplinary care plan meetings.
Maintain all aspects of confidentiality regarding the residents and the facility.
Know and follow facility policies and procedures.
Reads and follows the resident care plan.
Use resources with consideration to cost.
Assist residents with ADLs (activities of daily living) for which they need assistance, such as bathing, combing hair, brushing teeth, shaving,  dressing, ambulation, and toileting and laundry.
Clean rooms and change linens and assist with personal laundry
Assist in resident engagement program.
Assist during mealtime to assure a pleasant and safe dining experience.
Measure vital signs (blood-pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration).
Measure and record statistics such as intake and output, height, and weigh.
Records and documents care provided to the resident
Obtain routine lab samples.
Help residents with equipment for their treatment and care
Help residents to move, transfer from bed to chair, or transport them within the building or on the grounds.
Follow all infection control policies.
Observe the resident and surroundings and remove any potential hazards which could cause accidents.
Report to the nurse in charge all information and observations about the residents in their care.
Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Nursing Manager or other Skilled Nursing leader.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements and Experience:

Must possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with the Massachusetts State regulations - required
Good judgment and decision making.
Communication skills including the ability to communicate with residents, families and team members.
Reliability including reporting to work as scheduled and on time, and completing assignments according to facility policy.
Patience, tact, and a willingness to take direction and to work as a team member
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primary work will be performed indoors in an office setting, may be exposed to the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow); walking and standing frequently; occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds.

Work primarily indoors in a climate controlled setting.
Possible exposure to unpleasant odors
Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual
Possible exposure to infections, diseases and bloodborne pathogens
Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irritable and irrational
Subject to hostile and emotionally upset family members, personnel and visitors
May work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
