Position Overview:

The Production Planning Manager will direct and coordinate all production planning activities for the manufacturing operations.  This individual will be involved with the daily activities of production, inventory, warehousing, and distribution for the finished products produced in the plant.  As a key member of the management team, the scheduler will promote effective communication to maximize productivity in a high-volume manufacturing environment.  The ideal candidate for this position must be an advocate for production planning best practices and standardization. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Production Planning Manager’s responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Assist in developing Master Schedule requirements from demand forecast and discrete customer orders, plant capacity, and historical data.  This would include responsibility for scheduling the shearing, stamping, waxing, compound mixing departments
  • Interact with Production and Customer Service Representatives to update and advise of progress, status, and sequencing of customer orders.
  • Manage volume and manufacturing line shifts as needed to meet customer requirements.
  • Monitor inventories of raw material, work in process, and finished good to minimize costs and achieve plant inventory goals.
  • Oversee development and implementation of techniques that enhance production planning capability.
  • Determine steel raw material needs using forward looking sales forecasts.
  • Plan long term annual maintenance activities with Crown’s Closures, Aerosol, & Promotion Packaging (CAPP) Division Engineering to support customer demand during planned downtime period.
  • Interact with other departments to track spoilage and manage physical inventories.
  • Maintain accurate needs attention inventory and implement measures for improvement.
  • Drive continuous improvement through training and strategic planning.
    Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned such as physical inventories’.

 

 


Preferred Requirements:

  • Packaging industry experience
  • Certificates in APICS, CPSM, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
  • Knowledge of AS400

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Working Conditions:

  • Generally works in an office setting, but will be required to perform some duties inside an plant environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic.
  • The associate may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures.
  • The noise level is frequently loud.

Qualifications:

In addition to the specific responsibilities listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, operations research, or related area.
  • 5+ years of experience in a production planning, logistics and materials handling
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years managing direct reports
  • Approximately 10% travel
  • Must be available to work various shifts if needed and be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime to cover absences or provide additional support.
